First I would like to say, its chicken chit to tamper with someones truck, if you have a problem with them then handle it face to face. I see you have several performance mods and flowmaster outlaw exhaust. Do you rip it through your neighbor a lot or do hole shots from the same corner or stop sign regularly? That ****** people off, like an a-hole around me that has an electric cut out and goes by my house a lot uncapped. Maybe that's why they targeted your truck? Does your dog crap in the neighbors yard? Crazy ex? Its not a random type attack, it was intended to f up your truck or **** you off directly because it is probably obvious you really like your truck. Again, I'm not saying its right, but someone is mad at you for something.

No to none of this. I live up in the mountains and my closet neighbor lives a mile away from me. We all know each other in this area and I know no one would do this. This may seem strange to some people but there are still places like this in the USA where people know and trust each other. If some one around hear had a problem with me they would say it to my face.

Why do you assume that I drive crazy because I have performance mods? I never run my truck hard or do burn outs. I do it for a hobby because I enjoy wrenching on my vehicles.

So you actually think that people do not do bad things to other random people if they do not know you. Watch the news for 5 min.

I think you may be assuming that I am some teenager that is running around terrorizing people in my souped up truck and you could not be more wrong. I am almost 40, worked in the coal mines for the last 22 years (maybe a crazy tree huger did it), and have been married to the same woman for 20 years (so no crazy X unless they held a grudge for a really long time). I was brought up to respect other people

People around hear look at you funny if they can't hear your vehicle ha ha. This truck sounds tam compared to my straight piped Cummins that I traded for this truck.

I can guarantee this had nothing to do about a loud exhaust.

People who sugar gas tanks have to plan ahead—nobody walks around with a bag of sugar "just in case"—and random vandals who decide to equip themselves with bags of sugar usually go on a "spree" with multiple targets.

From the data available in this post, it fits the profile of personal retribution of some kind, much more than the profile of a random act of vandalism.

But someone did, didn't they, and not only that, they made a special trip of at least a mile to do it.
I live in the mountains too, in a very small community where people know each other and wave at each other when driving by, so I do understand that dynamic.
From your description, especially the part about your closest neighbor being a mile away, a random vandal "just passing through" is even more unlikely.

In a previous life it was once my job to evaluate things like this. I'm just working with the evidence at hand, this is not personal.

Ever burn sugar in a pan? Well that's what it does to upper cylinders, when the sugar burns, it will leave a huge deposit of molasses type crap that will harden like a rock in there and the top end and injectors are done, cooked, fried. But since it was only running for a few min and it wasn't sloshed around, then you may be ok but sugar does mix with gas without agitation depending on how long it was in the tank. Sorry to read that happened bud, good luck.

Sugar does not dissolve in gasoline. It will just sit in the bottom of the gas tank. In the unlikely event it did get picked up by the fuel pickup from being sloshed around, then the fuel filter will grab it since granuals of sugar are to big to pass through. This myth has been busted long ago. If it was me, and all you did was idle it for a few minutes, I would just drop the tank myself and clean it out. Not a hard job, and save your 500 deductible. I can guarantee you none of that sugar made it to the fuel pickup if you didn’t drive it.

What would you suggest I do? I do not have not the slightest clue of who it could be and I know of nothing I have did to any one.

The only thing I can do is man up and have it fixed and take preventative measures from it happening again. I don't know what else to tell ya.

Thanks for the info. This is exactly what I am hoping. I guess I will go ahead and let the dealer fix it being it is already there and I would have to pay to have it towed back. I wold have dropped the tank and cleaned it myself in a heat beat if I would have been sure of this.

Yeah, it's a tough one.
Around here we had a thing where my closest neighbor's mailbox was almost destroyed (all the boxes for the neighborhood are together on the County Road - USPS doesn't do "door to door" around here). He's an artist and a sculptor and the mailbox was made to look like a dragon out of scrap metal and stuff. It was really cool.

Turned out that the culprit was another neighbor who we've all known for years and who my artist neighbor considered a friend. He thought the mailbox "looked demonic", so he destroyed it.

I have no clue who might be upset with you, or why, if they are upset with you, they didn't feel able to confront you personally.

The bit you wrote about them "risking their life" was a little over the top, I thought.

Sugaring a gas tank is a chickencrap act by any standards, but it's not a capital offense in any civilized part of the world.

Is it possible that your enjoyment of the noise your truck makes is not shared by everyone?
Is it also possible that your willingness to suggest violence with firearms might be a sign that other people might misunderstand how aggressive you are personally and be nervous about confronting you?

Again, I'm just working with the details you reveal and asking questions. Without interviewing people who know you it's impossible to pin anything down definitively.

And for the record, I'm almost certainly what you would call a "tree hugger", and there's no way in the world I'd sugar anyone's gas tank.

I'm gonna drop this now, 'cos it's off-topic and no good can come from continuing this exploration.

I wish you the best. And I suspect, as some have said, that the sugar didn't make the trip into the engine, so cleaning out the tank will likely fix it.

Thank you for this off the wall post that has nothing to do with anything. This is the best laugh I've had in quite a while.

Mods you can close this trend at your desecration. This was never meant to be a criminal investigation and has completely got side tracked.

But even when not dissolved, wouldn’t the fuel pump still (even more of it) suck it up from the bottom of the tank?
Scary stuff...

Looks like that genuine Mopar cap is made by Stant from the "S" in the picture. Stant #10508 works fine on my '16 Outdoorsman.

Thank you.

It could have. Good thing is he caught it quick. I would def replace the fuel filter and fuel pump. Most likely you would see the effects of a clogged fuel filter before there was any harm actually done to the engine. Be thankful the POS didnt put bleach in your gas... you wouldnt have known until the engine was *****.
