That's a myth. The fuel tank sits inside the frame and is almost in the center of the truck. The engine and transmission are also offset to the pass side by a couple inches which offsets the fuel tank.If it was the fuel tank, the truck would have differant heights when the tank was empty and full, and it doesn't,it'll be the same height whether full or empty. Years ago on another forum one of the engineers for Ram said the trucks sit differant side to side because they're engineered to compensate for the crown of the road, which makes more sense then any theory about the fuel tank being the reason.I used the IHC kit, lowered the front and the back, it's the 3-5 kit. My axle housing moved to the right, noticeably. Got an adjustable pan hard bar to move the rear end back over to the left. It seems a hair off going over bumps, a corner to corner thing. I'm thinking it's the rear springs being different. The left side is taller to compensate for the fuel tank weight.
Unless you did the locating arm relocation brackets,or you're running adjustable locating arms,it's phsyically impossible for the diff not to move ahead when you lower the trucks Big. The locating arms basically get shorter when you tilt them uphill@Wild one you have way more experience than me, but, im level wheel to wheel in the back and front.
The left rear coil in the rear has a half a coil more than the right and the left lower a arm has a 1/4 spacer in the bottom under the spring to make it level.
im not certain if I'm counter acting the built in engineering design, probably am.
I may be over thinking it but, I like the way it runs and drives here in Montana where the roads are flat and wide.
If it breaks and I have to fix, I'll review.
Thanks for the information.
I have the ihc cut kit and core 4x4 adjustable arms, upper and lower. My rear tires are almost perfectly centered, front to back and side to side.Unless you did the locating arm relocation brackets,or you're running adjustable locating arms,it's phsyically impossible for the diff not to move ahead when you lower the trucks Big. It took me almost a day to install my illicit brackets and get them lined up properly, there was a whole lot of measuring going on,before i welded them in place, lol. But when all was said and done, the truck tracked dead straight and true and was easy to drive at 150 mph with 1 hand.I have the ihc cut kit and core 4x4 adjustable arms, upper and lower. I'm the output of being close to a north carliona (at the time) Nascar shop and had expert help, with the 5 link set up.
Their tweaks were minor, thankfully, but showed me where I missed a step or didn't measure correctly. It pays off to have connections.
I would have never thought to measure how they did and it was a couple of hours of education for me.
Yup, I agree, I had mine welded at your recommendation, only thing I've had happen is blowing out the bushings on my control arms. But I think that was hard launches from a standing start. Easy enough to replace. But caused me to change lubrication strategy to a non petroleum based lube which is working so far.It took me almost a day to install my illicit brackets and get them lined up properly, there was a whole lot of measuring going on,before i welded them in place, lol. ive been driving for a week with the new springs and its been stable but it feels stiff with those springs like you said all i need is the adjustable track bar and an alignment, where do you recommend alignments from?Yup, I agree, I had mine welded at your recommendation, only thing I've had happen is blowing out the bushings on my control arms. Set up correctly, the truck is stable. It takes more than just putting on the brackets. That's for sure
