Out of stock now!

Put some Bilstein 5100s on my old GMC today along with a new set of Michelin Defender LTX yesterday to help the ride. Man this truck rides like a tank compared to the Ram. Any of y’all have any experience with Bilsteins?

Yup - got the 6500's on all my vehicles. Known as "heavy duty" in Bilstein parlance. I like the control and anti-sway. Others say they are too harsh and go with the 5100's. See if you can find some vehicles in your area with each and ride.

Every once in a while it is good to go back to 1st grade graphs to show the difference in winter weight flow rates... At freezing temp of water 0c/32f you see 40 weights even 0 winter rated are 100's of viscosity more then 5w20. 0w40 is way over viscosity 500 and 5w20 way under, these numbers are exponentially higher the colder you get. In fact, as you see 0w40 is also way thicker then 5w30 in the cold as well. All cleared up?

KYB's are tied with bills for me for the best shock for what it's worth, I like bills better because of they level, but generic level kyb's are incredible. Firm but bounce you out of holes or dips, where as rancho's are firm but no bounce, you feel like you bottom out in holes or dips, no rebound. I know for sure I will buy some kybs in my future, especially if I get another bronco.

No they were new. They’ve only been on the truck for maybe 3K miles. I should have done my homework before buying them. Apparently they’re on the firmer side and I was looking for a smooth ride more than anything else.
Thanks again.

If you are trying to combat start up tick, I don't think you would want a 0w40 that is twice as thick as 20 weight and 100's viscosity thicker then 5w30.
RedLine 5W-30 is thicker than Mobil 1 FS 0W-40, especially at cold temperatures. At 0 Celsius, RedLine 5W-30 is 100 cSt thicker than Mobil 1 FS 0W-40, and 200 cSt thicker than Mobil 1 EP 5W-20. Do the math yourself.

I won't argue that 0W-40 is thinner than 5W-20 at cold, down to a point. When you get close to -30 Celcius and beyond, most 5W-20 oils solidify, while 0W-40 remains fluid.

Use the calculator here: https://fluidpower.pro/temperature-viscosity-chart/

You can run the numbers yourself and see.

Always liked them, but up here in the salt belt, the tale gate always rusted. Did you’ve the 302 or straight six cyl engine ?

Last note for those in other threads interested, there is zero chance a 5w20 would be thicker then a 0w40 at any temp ever, not hot or cold. However, in the cold as in sub zero, 0w40 is gonna be so thick you could stand a popcicle stick in it. If these charts continued just another 40-50 degrees cold you would see the difference between the two nearly 10k viscosity. 0w40's have their strong points, start up protection aint one of them.

all 3 were the 351w, my favorite engine, had great luck with them. Not a lot of power, but paired with the eo4d they bogged less then my hemi with 5 gears, something I doubt I will ever understand. I like the old 350 carb'd chevy's as well for there simplicity, but I had great luck with the windsors

a 0w40 would be much thicker at startup the 0w30, and in this graph you see how thick 0w30 is when it gets chilly -20, no get that 10 more degrees down, it is over viscosity 10k. Popsicle anyone?

M1 0w40 flows awesome in the cold. I believe the ccs@-35 was around 5800-6000 amd the mrv@-40 is 21,600 which is right on par with schaeffers 0w20 iirc. Schaeffers 5w20 stops flowing at -40. M1 stops flowinf at -60c/-76f. Now obviously there will be other issues besides motor oil at -60c.
