I have a 2007 Dodge Ram Quad Cab with the 5.7. About a year ago, I was driving to work one morning and the speedo and tach lights (only on the needles) went out. None of the other dash lights went out - just those two needles. I don't really care about the tach that much, but it's difficult to see my speed when it went out.

Just as I was going to take it to the dealership, the lights started working again. (Of course). A few months later - back to missing the tach and speedo needle lighting. Then back on again. Again and again it would happen. All I had to do is think about bringing it to the dealer, or actually making an appointment, and they would start working.

Finally, they just went out and stayed out. I had given up by this point. Then, last month they came back on again. Now I'm back to the on again, off again routine, and it's driving me nuts.

Any suggestions as to what this might be and what I can do to fix it?

All the best,
Glenn

Welcome to the forum. :) Sounds like it might be a short of some sort since they are working, then not working, but I don't know enough about that to give much other helpful information. Others should chime in soon to help out also. And again, welcome.

I would say loose wires in the wiring harness. When replacing my window switch LEDs I couldn't get the lights to turn back on. Jiggled the wiring harness and they flipped on. Haven't had a problem since.

Nope. I was hoping someone had a more definitive answer than loose wires (no offense meant to those that stated that), as that is the first thing I looked for. I really need a pin-out diagram so I can trace the wires that go to the lights for both needles. If I can find that wire / wires, I have this problem licked. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to identify which ones they are yet.
All the best,
Glenn

Just so everyone can see what I'm talking about, I took this picture today. Notice all the backlighting is fine, and the other four orange needles are fine too. It's just the lighting on the tach and speedo needles that is out.

Did you ever sort out a solution to this? I had the exact same thing happen to my dash this week.

Sorry I had never come back to this thread. I was checking old posts when I realized you had replied to this one in January this year.

I never did figure it out. It just stopped doing it one day, and I just traded in the truck the other day, so I never did get to the bottom of the problem. Sorry.

Did you ever figure it out this year?

All the best,
Glenn
