when I use the mft, I use it to step into the bed. I'm 56 with bad knees from years of sports, so it helps.. Little bit lower than the bumper. Plus it is rubberized and if I back into something, it does not hurt the bumper..

I was in harbor freight a couple days ago and got their $40 version of a TGL… I’ve peeked in the box so far but that’s all. I need to drill a few holes for a mounting plate and bolt it on I reckon.

I use a Gorilla 3-Step Aluminum Step Stool Ladder.
It folds flat and lays on top of stuff, so easy to store.

I was just curious , I assume to use it you have to climb over the tailgate, can’t step on it with tailgate down it’s not accessible.

I also have a 3 step aluminum ladder that I keep tied to the side of the bed with a couple bungies. Its fits on edge so it doesn't take up any room. I like the stability to get in and out of the bed. Very lightweight too. I also tow a 280ssx chaparral boat that I use it to step up to the rear platform. This boat doesn't have a pull out ladder, it has the fold out platform. Works great for both truck and boat

Correct, that is why I have the one on the side, for when tailgate is down normal.

I've got the OEM kick out step on mine, though it's frame mounted vs on the tailgate.. I'm always a little concerned it'll get drug on a trail, but so far no issues. It works well as a step, good grip and a good height from both the ground and the tailgate. The downside is no handle like the Fords have, though I'm sure there are things you can put in the stake pocket to use as a handle if you need it.

The other downside to that OEM step is coming down off the tailgate you’ve got to remember to watch out for the tailgate strap. Toe of my boot caught that once, and I thought my life was over as I saw myself face-planting to the cement below me. Luckily, somehow I got my balance/ footing back and was upright to land on my feet. God was watching out for me that day. Of course, I lift my foot WAY about that strap now!!!

The other downside to that OEM step is coming down off the tailgate you’ve got to remember to watch out for the tailgate strap. I never realized how difficult it was for us old farts to deal with getting in ,and out of the bed of a truck . Of course the very best solution would be carrying around a sturdy step ladder . I can see the potential of a disaster there also stepping down on it , and having it tip over or whatever . A bit of caution with anything is in order getting in ,and out of the bed .

Let me suggest for you on your under the bumper step , the same one as the AMP I have . To avoid any disasters , that step works great ,BUT it's not something you just go ,and step down on . I usually kneel down , and find it with my left foot , and step off the bed .

I just use a couple fingers or so in the stake pocket , and climb up .

I place one foot on the corner of the bumper outboard of the lowered tailgate, then step down to the bumper step. A little tricky but reduces the distance to the step bumper by 3in or so.

My suggestion if you have issues getting down, use the bed step going up, sit on the tailgate, hang legs over side to get down. Far less chance of a face plant and a small step down.

Those bumper corner steps are excellent for climbing up, but a PITA for navigating a toe hold to get back to the ground.

My tiny Rubbermaid step is leaps and bounds easier during the dismount stage.
For the peanuts that they cost, why not try one out?
IIRC, the last one I bought cost about $5 up here in Canadastan.

As said I get out the bed that way just sitting down ,and sliding off the tailgate .

I remember at the time it was way cheaper than buying one from the dealer. Buying as part of an option package may be cheaper. It has a warning that it doesn’t fit a 23 MY (or newer) but it looked like that was because they never updated their ad. It was actually easier to install than the instructions and tutorials on-line described. I don’t remember exactly what it was - maybe relocating a piece of wiring harness out of the way - but it was unnecessary on my truck.

It's been awhile since I installed the AMP fold down on my truck . IMO it's the best one out there , solid easy to fold down ,and easy to fold back up . I don't remember any issues with installation , there was a bumper bracket that was removed , but that has not been an issue . IMO it's the best solution to getting in the bed , it's below the bumper so it's not so high that it makes it difficult to step up . I went out yesterday needing to get my small BBQ , and propane tank out of the bed from our annual Montana trip , as usual it's was very nice to have , and as I have said in a previous post , I just grab a hold of the stake pocket , plenty of room in it to get a good grip.

That would be awesome man, now you've got me seriously considering taking the risk on this one, I mean if the bolt holes don't line up then it's Amazon so return it right. If its just moving a wire harness to the side then that would be easy breezy lemon squeezey. Thanks dude✌
