Sort of...

Been working with my tuner, Johan Mangs (diablotoona), to try and workaround that silly delay in shifting at WOT.

Stock, you all know the momentary delay in shifting at WOT. And it seemed to just shift, with no forward surge at all. He reduced the torque management Chrysler sets. It then shifted much quicker, and harder. Actually had a little jump on shifts.

First trip to the track I couldn't cut better than a .5-.6 light. Pathetic. I even tried launching on the second amber. Only got me down to .3. So he tweaked some more, plus we started working on the actual engine performance. Now it literally leaps on shifts, and actually puts me back in the seat a bit. Last night I was able to cut a .1 light. Plus my ET's were consistent throughout the entire evening. Went from the 15.3 - 15.7 range, to all 15.2's last night, and my trap speed improved. DA was in the low to mid 8k's, unlike the 9400 it was last week. My best runs correct to 13.8's at sea level. Next we're gonna try and break into the 14's.

Hopefully when Diablosport releases their tranny tuning support we can eliminate all the hesitation. I want to be back in the 0.00x -0.0xx range I'm used to. But he's been able to tame some of it just tweaking what's available now.

Anecdotal story. Last week I ran a Mustang GT. I kept waiting for him to come flying past me. He never did. So he just so happens to pull up next to me while waiting for the gates to open yesterday. I go over and said solve a mystery for me. I ran you last week and beat you. Is that a 6 cylinder. He said no, opened the hood and it's a 4.6L 8 cylinder with a Rousch intake manifold. He gave me some nonsense about playing with his tranny and said lets run again tonight. I said ok. Beat him even worse. LOL! Plus his performance got worse through the night. Mine was consistent. diablotoona FTW!

more as it happens...

Any idea when Diablosport will release the 8 sped tuning? I have hemifever custom tune on mine but still feel like I am leaving some performance on the table due to the transmission. Doesn't shift nice and firm like I would like it too even with the torque management removed.

Glad to see folks finally able to tune these 8 spds a bit. Mine is not setup for hot rodding or racing per say but I wouldn't mind a little something more for when opportunity knocks :naughty:

Take a look at the Pedal Commander thread in the Performance section and see what you think. It may help with your "lag" time. I was up in your country last week and mine, set at "sports +2" performed great. It made a huge difference in the acceleration, even at your altitude.

The diablosport with Hemifever removes torque management? I didn't realize that, very cool!

Yes Sean can create customs tunes where he can remove that. In my daily driving tune I have around 10-20% removed and then I have a race tune that he has as much removed as he can.

Also custom tunes he removes the pedal lag just like the pedal commander would do but he also smooths out the curves so I would recommend a custom tune over the pedal commander.

When I ordered the PCM the tech thought it was already available. But he went and checked with someone, came back, and said no not yet, but real close. So take that for what it's worth. I'm sure they're getting lots of pressure to release it.

I looked at it to see what it was. Reminded me of the Sprint Booster some of the Jeep guys tried a few years back. I see it as a one trick pony, and quite expensive for that one trick. But if that's all you need, then it could be a good fit. For me, and most of those guys, we wanted to tune our vehicles as well. The DS tuners can do the same thing with the throttle. Just depends on what you're after. Not everyone lives at the track like me.

I am running it in conjunction with a Hemifever custom tune and I have found that they compliment each other very well. You are correct about track time, I don't have the same amount of track time as you do, nor have I tested each independently or together to see what the difference in performance or times might be. I do know that there is a tremendous change in the initial acceleration after the installation of the Pedal Commander, even after Sean adjusted the throttle response in my custom tunes.

Twin sons from different mothers! LOL! Well you're way more of a trooper than I. That's too far for me. Fortunately Bandimere is maybe 15 minutes from the house.

I'd be curious to get your impressions if you asked Sean for a few more degrees of timing and unplugged the Commander. Not knocking it, but it can't make more power. It just lets you at what you have quicker. You might be surprised. To me, the bigger problem is the tranny hesitation.

This was over a month ago with HP Tuners and Greene Racing tuned this truck all the way around. The tuning isn't new by any means, there is a couple flaws that need HPTuners need to address but other than that I will say Jay did a bang up job. All of he shifts hit extremely fast and hard at WOT. At part throttle you can feel how crisp the shifts are but nothing like at WOT.

https://youtu.be/Lm3C6t8VcVY

By the way this is my truck with very few mods and full weight with passenger.

Very impressive man! I timed around 5 seconds 0-60? How did it run before the trans tune? Best I have ran with my truck 0-60 with HF is 5.7s. Pretty expensive for both engine and trans tune (+$500) from Greene though or I would already do it.

Thanks!
Idk what it did before the tune on the trans? That was me rolling into the throttle to keep from blowing the tires off even with my Michelins.

All I can tell you is that the truck has been the best of [email protected] in +492' DA with slicks and seat/console pulled. That was with 7 degrees of timing pulled between shifts from 1-2 and 2-3 and before the trans tuning. For intake, Tstat, muffler and tuned it should run easily a 7.95-8.00 in the 1/8th in the same conditions. I haven't modded my truck since the best pass it has went. It's an easy 12 sec truck all day, everyday and twice on Sunday lmao.

Nice! I'd kill for 500 ft of DA...

+1 for the pedal commander. I've got a hemifever tune as well with throttle response cranked up and the pedal commander makes a huge difference. At the higher settings, it'll provide throttle with even the smallest movement of the pedal.

I had Johan Write me a custom tune for my 13 Challenger, and the transmission shifted like the built torqueflight transmission I had in my 72 Cuda. I know the wait for the 8-speed tune will be worth it. I had a tuner on my 07 Ram and that transmission shifted a lot better than stock.
With the torque management, MDS, and throttle lag gone, the truck will a lot nicer to drive, and the trans mod will be a plus.

He's the man when it comes to Hemis! Been tuning my Jeep for the past seven years, and now my Ram. He also tuned the Quickest Hemi on the planet. It's into the 4's now and making 2300 HP. Bruce at HHP spec'd my engine the same as Rob's, though Rob went for a stroker. But same internals. Bruce told me I could throw whatever I wanted at it, so I am. LOL! But you guys want to talk throttle response, my tech calls my Jeep explosive! I call it downright dangerous. Barely touch the throttle to get moving and wait till it shifts to second before even thinking about giving it any gas. Otherwise there better not be anyone in front of you for a at least 100+ feet. I'm used to it, but at the track it's exactly what I wanted. But enough about that. I don't plan to go crazy with the Ram as my Jeep is my race vehicle. But I didn't plan to mod my Jeep either. LOL! Just want to make the Ram a little faster to pacify me at the track until the new Jeep build (Pigzilla) is finished. I'm already a second or two quicker than the other pickups I see at Bandi. He's tweaked the TM, killed the MDS, and always eliminates the throttle lag. It leaps when it shifts now and it starting to be fun to make passes in. And he just added another degree of timing. So hopefully it doesn't rain next Wed.

I hear ya. I'd rather be back in Corpus, but the boss finally convinced me to move here. Most of the employee cars at the office got severe damage from that storm. Fortunately my Jeep was in the speedshop in the Springs, and my Ram was in my garage. Strangest weather I've ever seen. I was driving down the road one day, clear sunny day. Turned a corner and it was snowing. A couple blocks down I turned again, bright and sunny. Then sitting at a light by the office one day it started hailing on me. I looked around the intersection, and only my car was getting hit. WTF??? They say if you don't like the weather up here, wait five minutes. I don't need to wait, I don't like the weather. LOL!
