I seem to remember in the past a member posted how to temporarily disable the VVT function when starting truck. Anyone have info on this?

When you put the gear shift to Drive, Press the - on the Gear select. You will then see a number 1-8 next to the D. Press + or - to select the max gear you want. (usually on highway I go to 8) By doing this, it will temp. disengage the MDS.I seem to remember in the past a member posted how to temporarily disable the VVT function when starting truck. It resets when you shift out of D, so you you actually have to do it every time you shift into D even if you haven't shut off the truck.... VVT adjusts the timing of the valves, i.e. cam phaser(s) and oil pressure and cannot be manually disabled ... MDS disables the operation of the valves on specific cylinders, i.e. solenoids/oil pressure ...
MDS can be deactivated by the info detailed in the previous post(8speed tranny).
You'll have to do this each time the truck is shut off and restarted ...
There's more oil supplied to the lifters when the truck goes into MDS mode. They use oil pressure to disable the lifters,so it's a judgement call on whether you want to disable it or not.BTW the majority of lifters that go south are the non-mds lifters, not the mds liftersI seem to remember in the past a member posted how to temporarily disable the VVT function when starting truck.
