Most of the summer I'm commuting on my Harley...I happened to be driving my truck because it was raining...I used to live in Wyoming and worked all over the place with lots of wildlife. I worked with a guy that had hit 9 deer in his life. Early and late in the day expect animals to be on the road. At night they can show up any time and are harder to see.
At deer thirty and at night our rule was to drive below the speed limit. We would always have a spotter in the passenger seat. Hitting a deer causes damage to your truck. Hitting an elk, a horse or worse yet a moose can come in through the windshield and kill people.
Be alert. Modern headlights are much better for spotting animals. Don't drive impaired in game country. In Nevada we have a lot of horses and cattle on the road at night. They are big animals compared to deer and can really wreck vehicles.
Driving fast over the crest of a hill is not a good idea.

LOL! Love it.I live in Northern Ontario and have had several close encounters with "grilled Moose"
Been there, done that..... And didn't like it one bit.Star, you were lucky, you should try it on a motorcycle! I hit one doing 60 on my Honda VTX about ten years ago. Totaled the deer, my bike and messed me up. Didn't eat the deer, did buy my bike back from insurance company and rebuilt it and still riding it. The wife wasn't too excited about me continuing to ride, but a guys got to do what he's got to do!
Oh! "Deer"!They must import them for the tourists.
.

Years ago, there was a fellow that hit a horse at night while on a motorcycle. He knew that he couldn't get stopped so he hugged the fuel tank with his chest, hung on to the bars and went through the horse. He survived, horse didn't.Been there, done that..... And didn't like it one bit.
Had a mama deer run out in broad daylight (2PM) with me on a bike with a car in front of me, she got clear of the car but then baby Bambi came out - Missed the car but I caught it.
As soon as I saw mama run out I knew something was going to happen (Usually does) and sure enough it came out following mama and I tagged the rear of it, sending it kinda flying while spinning at the same time to the ditch.
All I could do was grip the handlebars tight and brace for impact....
Which resulted in a busted front fender I was able to finish breaking off after I got it stopped and rode it home. Ordered a new fender, installed it and that's all I had to do to fix it - Lucky me.
Boy! THAT took a lot of GUTS!!!Years ago, there was a fellow that hit a horse at night while on a motorcycle. He knew that he couldn't get stopped so he hugged the fuel tank with his chest, hung on to the bars and went through the horse. He survived, horse didn't.
