So far so good! I just rolled over 1000 miles since my engine replacement, and besides a CEL that a software flash to the PCM fixed, it's been great!

Can someone post a video of their trucks running. And rev the engine quickly a few times. Mine makes a crazy high pitched ticking hiss when I do this. Like to see if it's normal, like the dealer says it is. They say it's the injectors and lifters together making the noise.

Thanks in advance.

Clark (SupermanWV)

Mine ticks when first started up, but subsides after it gets warmed & lubed up. Never loud enough to hear inside the cabin. I was a little surprised by the ticking at first, but it runs great and fluids and temps are all normal.

Noting has really changed with the 6.4Hemi since '14 so not sure why the 15's would be having any issues.

Maybe I should get the cummins instead :)

I was thinking the same thing. I have a friend that is having a problem with her 2001 Ram 2500. Fuel filter and pump.
I should have edited this or proof read it, my friend is having problems with her 2001 2500 with the Cummins Diesel not the "Hemi"
In tank fuel filters, seems they want over 1200 bucks to replace them.

I dont hear any ticking and definitely no clattering. I posted a thread about a little vibration that I get at 1500 rpm. But thats about it. Ive been pulling over 13k on a few trips this year so far and its been strong. I dont care what you get today, cummins , hemi, ford, chevy, its all garbage! Especially for the money we pay and the decades of engineering we have been through!

I agree, for the money we pay for these things they should be bulletproof and run flawlessly for at least as long as the powertrain warranty. Technology today is lightyears ahead of when I got my first vehicle ('86 Buick GS), but the quality control sometimes seem like its from the dark ages. I'm truly hoping oil changes, tire rotations and regular service intervals are all any of us need with these RAM's.

I'm willing to bet people were saying the same things about their cars 50 years ago.

is the date on the door sticker the date referred to on the TSB or is there another date for the engine? I assume the date on the door sticker is the final mfr date of the finished vehicle?

It is, but I think the exact build date is on the build sheet as well.

The date refers to the build date for a particular VIN.

Mine was replaced at 19K. There is no comparison this engine to the other. In fact really no excuse for it getting out of the final assembly line originally.

This one is smooth as glass. It has 3K on it now.

Hello everyone....thanks for your posts.

Q. Have there been any 2015 2500 6.4s with the wrist pin issue?

>>>>>>>>>

We found a new 2015 2500 6.4 we like and would like to buy it in the next week or so, but have concerns over this wrist pin issue.

This truck is very important to us as it will be will be pulling our 5th wheel when we start fulltiming out west in 6 weeks. :help:

Below is the data for this new 2500....the issue is....is there an issue??? :help:

>>>>>>>>>

06/16/14 to 10/07/14 = Mfg Date for motors with bad wrist pins

9/10/14 = Mfg Date of new 2500 2015 we want to buy

>>>>>>>>>

DJ = 7th and 8th characters of the VIN that could have bad wrist pins

HJ =7th and 8th characters of the VIN that we want to buy

>>>>>>>>>

Just me now....but wouldn't the motor number sequence of those had the bad wrist pins vs VIN number be a better way to be sure?

Thanks

Mike

You are. Mine was built around same time as yours and has dj. The dj is just code for your type of truck. The bulletin affects trucks built in 2014

My truck was built before the tsb dates but it is loud until it's at almost operating temp. Dealership says it's normal for the 6.4 to sound like crap ( his words)...... I'm pretty dissapointed it's embarrassing to drive this truck around when it's not at temp... I'm really wanting to trade it in but I'll take a huge hit on trade with only 12k on the clock.

Seems to me like your dealer sounds like crap. Does your truck fall into the date range or VIN range on the bulletin? I'd pay another visit to the dealer with the paperwork in hand if that is the case.

They don't sound bad at all when the pistons are slapping the sides of the cylinders!

Hey MADDOG, if anyway possible, can you post a video of the sound of your truck at cold start up after the repair. If you have a before video/sound it'll be great.

Mine was an 06/2015 build and it's pretty noisy on start up (almost diesel sounding), but trails off to a much lesser chatter after 1-2 mins. I also have the DJ in my VIN#.

Mine is exactly the same. At cold start up, almost like a diesel. after a minute or two it's quiets down alot. When i'm driving next to a car with windows up, you can hear it clattering when the MDS is on. When I turn off the MDS you can barely hear it in the same scenario.

I didn't buy from the dealer I took it to... I bought the truck 2 hours away and this dealer is only 30 minutes... I doesn't fall in the build dates I don't know what the Vin range is. I'll have to look it up.
