I would change it early, were I you, good sir!!

I'd also install the @caulk04 transmission cooler bypass valve upgrade as well.
This will drop your trans temps by up to 30deg/c and your engine temps by up to 5deg/c as well.

Follow the green sheet instructions to a "T", too!!
Extremely important for our 8spd transmissions!!
Ordered the bypass just now. Getting the fluid on Amazon (7quarts) but with the ppe pan I’ve got to find two extra quarts. Looks like $35 a quart. Wow!

Ok, so my '24 did this one time, and as' ibike' says, sure it could be a computer thing, and maybe a lot of other causes too.

Since there are probably a few million 5th gen rams out there by now, just wondering if others had this weird tranny NOT shifting event.
First things first. Make sure your battery isn't the culprit. Do 3 tests... an capacity test, a load test, and, the most neglected and overlooked test.... a hydrometer test.
I'd suspect a sulfated battery. The only way you can know for sure if it is sulfated, is to read hydrometer values, temperature corrected. If they are low, an 8 hour (minimum) low amp (2-4 amps) charge, then retest specific gravity.
After the charge, the readings MUST me at minimum, 1250, depending on temperature. OTC makes a great temperature compensating hydrometer, for under 20 dollars on Amazon.

I've had batteries pass the load and capacitance tests, the customer experiencing anything form flaky electronic power steering issues to any one of many other CAN/BUS problems, but the batteries were sulfated. The NUMBER 1 cause is someone putting in a battery that isn't properly matched to the specs of the manufacturer of the vehicle. I am a pro tech and see this ALL THE TIME!

Bigger AIN'T better.

Ok so mine stuck in first twice now in 2 weeks at 29 k.

The fluid suggestion is worth trying though i have zero visible leaks. Yes could be low from factory.

On the battery, worth trying, but a long shot for sure. My cables and terminals are extra clean and the dash display reads normal voltage.

This last event where i described letting off the gss, pausing, then it shifted into 2 and beyond normally. That's no battery.

A hot tranny is not a factor either because mine will stick in first in two minutes of operation from cold.

Other than the fluid idea, I'm stuck with this till she breaks and coughs up an error code. I know from prior experience that the dealer is poweless to do anything under the warranty from Ram and Ramcares does not care.

So we wait for the tow truck!

From this forum 2 years ago........
2018 2500 with 6.4 66rfe 93,000k
Was driving from red light and when the truck went to grab 3rd gear, revs went up like it was put into neutral . Pulled over and truck went into 1st gear. Pulled out and would not shift out of 1st. Limped back to the house about 7 miles in 1st. Got to the driveway and put in reverse and it went into reverse a little harsh. Put into drive and would only go into 1st with a little throttle. About 1100 rpms......

Doesn't prove anything except that stuck in 1st gear can and does happen, though it may be rare.

Op surprised to run across the post, as previously had only seen about 5 similar posts on another ram forum.

At this point, it's past time for Ramcares to speak up. Or is it, they really don't care and don't want to bring attention to this?
