Hello everyone, I’m a newbie here so first time poster and want to say hello to all of you! Just to give you a little rundown of me and my truck. I have a 2006 Ram 1500 slt quad cab 4x4 with the 5.7. I bought her new in 06 and haven’t wanted another vehicle since. She’s got 160,000 miles and I perform all the maintenance and work on her myself. Now the problem I’ve been having for over a year now is the dreaded code p0171 lean condition. This has been driving me crazy. I’ve thrown the parts cannon at this too many times. I’ve replaced all o2 sensors, put on new exhaust from manifold to tailpipe, new manifold gaskets, map sensor and air temp sensor, new fuel injectors, cleaned the fuel rail, new fuel pump, smoke tested it and found no leaks. And what’s crazy is she drives and runs great but the darn money light keeps coming back. I know many of you are thinking if it runs good then so what but I’m a perfectionist and I won’t stop until I fix it. And also running lean all the time isn’t good my engine. So any tips , advice, walk throughs would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and sorry for the lengthy post.

some of the videos that i just watched, indicated that there was an exhaust leak, one showed that the exhaust manifold Flange was just barely connected.
He replaced it & both 02 sensors reading returned to normal

That was the first thing i tackled ,thats why i replaced the manifolds and gaskets. I still have the code but i just seen something that has me confused. When im using my obd2 multi directional scan tool,(launch),it is showing me as having 2 powertrain control modules!!! type 1 and type 2. the second one is vague in its information and says undefined on the serial number etc. Is that not normal? I did use a power programmer (superchips) years ago on this truck but i took the performance profile off of it. Im wondering if that might have messed up something in my ecm??

If you don't have this problem figured out yet there are several steps you can take to diagnose the issue.

First, use your scan tool and look at the freeze frame data so you can see what was happening during the DTC set conditions.

What was the upstream O2 sensor voltage at this on both banks?

Take a look at the map vacuum, TPS percentage, injector pulse width, engine load, knock sensors. Looking at the freeze frame data can tell you so much about what was happening when the MIL was illuminated.

The one thing I didn't see in your original post was whether or not you connected a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel rail to verify proper fuel pressure. I saw the fuel pump replacement but that still doesn't mean it has the correct fuel pressure or volume of fuel.

You also said that you had previously used a SuperChips Flashpaq and that you removed the performance profile.

Does that mean you returned the truck to the stock programming? If so, how long ago was this?

Did this issue occur after using the Flashpaq to return the PCM to the stock software?

When the engine is warmed up and idling what is the voltage on the upstream O2 sensors? Is it pretty stable or is it all over the place and going up and down?
