Thinking about headers

Well for the past day or two I've been thinking about getting headers. I know the the performance they will bring and have just about convinced myself to buy some JBA shorties from Matt (hemi450hp). I just need to hold off for a little bit longer for some warmer weather to get here so they are not sitting in the garage looking at me saying put me on.

I've been looking at them. Just don't know if I need long tubes. The truck will never see the track.

A thing to consider with the jbas being higher priced, you could buy the arh headers alone and have a custom shop install them for you and only a little more than what the jba kit installed would be. Might hit up Chaney that's what he did

I'd personally go with long tubes just for the extra grunt down low, but there is nothing wrong with the JBA shorties. I had them on my 06 5.7L Charger and loved them.

I'm going to have to look into the pros/cons of both and see what's going to work best. I just know if I go with long tubes I'll want to ditch the bullydog and get the trinity

In the end, longtubes are going to make more power all around, but the added cost is tough to overcome. Chaney installed his longtubes on stock tuning and felt a huge gain, so you would be fine running them with the Bullydog. I ran longtubes as well on my 03 with just a canned Superchips tune and I was making over 350 at the wheels.

Chaney went with just the headers which are $970 shipped and had his local shop fab up an awesome true dual setup. If you want to stick with the mufflex kit, then it would be worth it to get the full y-pipe/high flow cats setup from ARH as well which is $1579 shipped.

Having said all that, there is nothig wrong with shorties. They are still going to show an improvement over stock.

I've had both shorties and long tubes in the past (on a 2nd gen) and the long tubes made a bigger difference. You really cant go wrong with either though. Good luck!

Well you guys have given me a lot to think about. I just had a magnaflow y pipe installed on Monday and the only other exhaust mod I planned was a electric exhaust cutout. Lots to think about

If you get just the $970 long tubes, what all would an exhaust shop have to do to make them work with the factory exhaust set up (I have replaced Y pipe and muffler)

With this i wanted to stay away from having a shop do it, so if I decide on long tubes I'd just get the whole set up

Just build a Y-pipe. For me, its worth getting the ARH y-pipe though if you want to keep a single exhaust because theirs is all mandrel bent stainless with high flow cats...it is also bolt-on making it very easy to put on and take off. If you have a shop build this, then it will more than likely be made of aluminized steel with crushed bends. They can then open up the stock cats to 3" and weld them in.

09SMOKINHEMI was just telling me yesterday how impressed he was with how simple the install was on the ARH setup he just installed. They make it a complete and very simple bolton setup which is a nice bonus.

Yes this is correct. My buddy and I were impressed with how well these things fit and how well they lined up. I went wiyh the entire kit but everything needed for an install is included. Very well designed for our trucks

At this point the cost of the long tubes are the hardest part to swallow. I wish jba had a dyno sheet with the shorties on a 4th gen

understood man.... they are a bit higher. i debated for a long time on the longtubes. i initially had my preorder in on BBK shorties for a while. but since BBK kept delaying the release of it, it gave me more time to think (and more time to save some $$$ lol). not sure if BBK has released their headers yet or if there are any positive reviews on them yet or not, but that might be another option for you as well. they're cheaper (pricewise) than jba's. then maybe you could use those $400 you saved towards an eFan or a torque converter
