2021 ram 6.4l 106k miles I’ve got a very light, intermittent ticking that only shows up under light load while driving once in a blue moon. It's happened twice in the last 3 month. However I don't drive it daily. It does increase with engine RPM.

• Not on cold start
• Not at idle
• Can’t hear it outside the truck
• Comes and goes, doesn’t happen every drive
• Lifters were replaced by the dealership ~9,000 miles ago.

Curious what others think or something else you’ve experienced?
Just gathering input, not panicking or tearing into it yet. I did change to amsoil in-between the two times it happened, no change.

A belt. I'd just hose the engine down. That's worked for me in the past.

It could be the doohickey on the thigamajig, otherwise known as the flex plate. I'm almost sure the 6.4 has a inspection port, how many miles on truck and location ? Does it seam down low?

Why would you spray PAM cooking oil spray on anything engine related? ... I'm not for sure or certain what the benefit would be.

Mike, I'm not sure or what is going on with this feller's truck ... PAM cooking oil spray was mentioned as an antidote ...
Ok, maybe I over read and missed something.

Flex plates can crack yes, not RAM specific just a wear item in any vehicle, especially in areas with large temp swings. thus I also asked location. Inspect through hole. A suspect in intermittent tick and changes with rpm. Lifespan on flex plate is between 100k and 150k miles according to some sites, I'd say on the lower end for cold regions but in mild climate could last 1/2 a million miles.

Flex plates is in the center but that doesn't mean the sound channel would be passenger side, just one option anyhow. If you can get it to tick in either park or neutral have someone on the pedal and another with a stethoscope try and narrow it down. Neutral spins trans fluid but park doesn't last I checked with rfe, might want to try in neutral.

Start simple, gets simple solutions. Got oil? Use it!

Back in the day, I witnessed my dad using a bar of soap for such matters to when as a fan belt were slipping/ chirping.

Yup, about anything is better than thinking it must be a lifter problem. At least at first. Knock out the simple equally likely problems with the easy solutions before tearing into the more extremes.

Toothpaste and WD40 were also old time go to's for a slipping belt if you didn't have any Belt Dressing handy

The "only shows up on light load" would make me suspicious of an exhaust leak.
