So I've searched all over and can't find the answer. The general rule of thumb is you can go up two tire sizes on stock wheels. I need new tires and don't really have the money right now to buy new wheels but would like a larger tire. I have a 2in level and my tires are the stock 265/70R17. I know I could fit a 285/70R17 I was wondering if anyone thinks I can run a 285/75R17 on my stocks? The tire width is the same as the 285/70R17 just a larger sidewall.

Yes. You can easily fit those. If you have a 4x4, you could go even larger.

Even with these skinny 17in stock wheels? I believe they're only 7in wide and everyone says I need to run at least 8in wide wheels.

Tire manufacturer recommends wheel width, so just browse your favorite tire website and see what they say :)
