I have a 2019 1500 crew cab (6’ bed) w Hemi and 3.92. I do a lot of towing- boat, motors and trailer appr 9000 lbs..

I had planned to turn in my lease and go with a 2500, but the dealer stock and incentives were not strong. Decided to buy out my lease as I had good residual.

My truck goes a decent job with my boat. I am in a relatively flat area and the ramps I use are decent. I go back and forth to ramp 5 times a week during season (appr 30 miles) and take one or two long trips a year (300+ miles).

I’d like recommendations on new tires. I have 275s on 20” rims. I’d like to go with an AT tire and possibly go to a 295. Any thoughts on what would best suit my needs? Heck, I probably don’t even need an AT tire as I really don’t do too much stuff off-road, but o like the look.

Thanks in advance for your comments!

I've said this in previous posts about tires and tire opinions. Find a XL rated tire with a higher load index than the OEM tires in the same size. My 2018 Bighorn had the OEM Goodyears that were the Wrangler tires with a 114 load index. I got rid of those tires after a short period of time and went with Nitto Terra Grappler G2's that had an XL rating and a 116 load index. Only one pound heavier than the OEM tire. I wouldn't go larger for towing. Much more rotational mass that could effect bearings, brakes, and some suspension components. Not saying it would destroy those components, as many have successfully run bigger tires and lifts with no issues. I wouldn't do it if I was towing regularly.

My personal experience, I had a GMC way back when and ran 33/12.50R15's on it. Wore out the wheel bearings after a short period of time. A lot heavier tire than OEM. Wasn't worth it in the long run. I would get the XL tire with the higher load index and not worry about too much.

As above, and try and stick with the same offset if you change wheels. My new 1500 Classic is coming in a few weeks and it has 20" rims on it with highway tyres which are I think Hankook 275/60/20. I have already bought some American Outlaw Legacy 18x9 wheels for it which are the same offset as the original 18x8 (so 1/2" either side wider). They are 5/5.5" 18P with 1134kg (2500lb) load rating. I bought 295/70/18 Yokohama AT 129S G015 tyres for it which are about 34.25" (3.9% taller) however you should be able to buy tyres close to the original diameter of the 33" 275/60/20 like a Toyo AT3 for example in either 33x12R18 (32.5") or 275/70/18 (33.25"). Those however are both LT rated though in 122 and 125 respectively, which do have some tradeoffs as discussed above. I like the LT sidewalls for towing, on my current vehicle I found I killed lighter sidewall rear tyres pretty quickly although this was long distance towing. I want to eventually get Toyo AT3 295/70/18 for my Ram but they aren't available in Australia yet and the Yokohama G015 were on a special plus buy 3 get 4th free so hard to pass up, they were so cheap it was ridiculous.

You shouldn't have much tongue weight with a boat. Our bot weighs 8900lbs with trailer and we only have about 700lbs tongue weight. Boats typically have less tongue weight due to the engine being at the back. Shouldn't be pushing your axle or tire limits/payload

Check out the BFG 2ko they are a D rated tire you can get in OEM size. I liked the ones I had on my 1/2 ton.

mine has the wildpeak AT3 and they have been great. they are smooth and quiet and have been good in snow up to the running boards and I have towed my 6000# travel trailer a cpl. hundred miles thru driving rain with good traction.

They make an E rated tire in 275 55 R 20's, but they're heavy...XL's are a little bit heavier but not much more than a SL tire.
