What tires are best for the 2500 diesel 4x4. I live in south Tx where it's hot almost year round. Tires wore out within a year. Is this normal?

2500 has a heavier frame then a 1500
Diesel adds what, 500 pounds?
4x4 (if engaged) wears tires quicker

But the real question is, how many miles did you put on it ?

No details on use, miles driven, towing or not and a raft of other pertinent info. The OEM tires on a new vehcile last less than 30% of what that exact tire would last bought from a tire shop.

My suggestion. Search the word Tires, just in the title. There are 500 threads, 20 pages of threads, on the topic on here alone. If that isn't enough info, no idea what else to say.

What are your driving habits/conditions?
Mostly highway or off road - loaded and/or towing?

If you're mostly on-road, look at the Michelin LTX M/S (E-Rated) tires.

Regardless of tire choice, ensure you are regularly checking and adjusting your tire pressures, cold, and rotate often.

OP didn't ask about the 1500
Diesel add about 900#
No one drives around in 4x4 mode on pavement, and the small %-age of the time it is in 4x4 is irrelevant

The mileage question is legit, though.

I have never found that to be true. And why would that be anyway, since they would be the exact same tires? Every set of tires I've ever had on any truck I've ever owned has given me at least 50,000 miles - including the factory set.

Your experiences often vary from the rest of us. No idea what to say about why.

Do a search, there is a ton of documented evidence that OEM tires are made to a much lower standard to meet the price requirement to get the contract. Believe it or not, doesn't change the facts.

I simply said that hasn't been my experience, and was going to comment that maybe you just have more bad luck than average. I also don't recall anyone I know ever saying that their factory tires wore out quicker than any other tires they've purchased. Maybe the part of the country we have lived in, I don't know.

The point about 1500 vs 2500 is that if you look up "ram" most information will be slanted towards the 1500

Same with gas vs diesel

So, what he's gonna find will not likely match what he experienced

That's why I pointed it out

I agree with @Tulecreeper. Everyone’s tire wear experience is going to be markedly different. No 2 people drive the exact same way and in the exact same condition's. For example, I’ve got 20k on the stock rubber on my diesel pusher and can easily get another 20k. To say all stock tires are complete garbage is not at all accurate.

As I said above, it may also have to do with the part of the country we live in. Areas that hit 110° for 4 months out of the year and drive on asphalt that is 160°+ are going to see different results than someone who lives where summer temps never get above 90. Same goes for winter temps. No driving in snow/ice is going to help.

1. You guys might have scared him off, he hasn't posted since Friday.
2. To OP, this is like the dead horse of forums, usually searching the forum for tires 2500 gets you a bunch of info to search through before you ask a question like this.
3. Did anyone else notice in his info on the left that it censored his engine? LOL.

I have a 6.4L Hemi that I tow upto 10,000 lbs and our out side temp during summer time 105 degrees and winter down to 25 degrees so it gets hot and cold. I have ran Cooper tires on my gas and diesel trucks, currently I am running LT285/60R20 A/T3 Discover 10 ply 60,000 mile tire I rotate and balance every 6,000 miles. If you don't get at least 60,000 miles you need to have your truck inspected with 4 wheel alignment, my current tires have 65,000 plus mileage I will need a new set by winter.

So, what did you find out? I live in Hot Southern Nevada, and I have the same question. What tires work best in a hot climate? I have a 265/70R17 tire size. I put Pirelli Scorpion AT tires on the truck 4 years ago. They have about 1/4 of the tread left, but the tires are starting to crack, and the driver's front is bulging up, about to come apart. I do not tow a camper often, go up in the mountains to hunt and scout about 4 times a year. And only put about 5000 miles on the truck a year.

My 2500 recently was weighed and it was 8700 lbs. I ended up with Nitto dura grapplers as a replacement for road use. I found the stock tires very slippery.

It is patently false that OEM tires are any different than locally purchased replacements…Except when the tire mfr’g plant location is different. Tire companies are global companies and the same make/model tire can be mfr’d in several different countries… and just like petroleum… different regions are subject to slightly different quality base-stocks…which affect the end-product. A tire made in TX can be the same make/model as one made in Korea…Vietnam…or So. Carolina….and it’s reasonable to expect those plant difference can affect product, even if mfr’d to the same specificaiton. A specification is a “minimum” standard….and the same product made elsewhere might exceed that minimum….with resultant wear expectations. I have had 3 different sets of the identical Michelin tire carrying a 60K wear warranty…and got 42K out of the first set, 55K the second, and 70K the third. The first two were made in Canada and the last in So. Carolina.

I recently did a Giggle search for U.S. mfr tires and was surprised to learn how the industry has changed. The main U.S. mfr’r of tires is Goodyear.
What is also interesting is they make Cooper tires….both of whom make tires under different “brand names” …. such as Dayton, Mickey Thompson, etc etc for many different retailers (such as WalMart “Douglas” brands, etc)
Michelin (a French mfr’r) has U.S. plants and make tires under “brand name” tires such as B.F. Goodrich, UniRoyal, etc.)

The industry has been going thru a competitor-buy-out. For example, Firestone….is actually now owned by Bridgestone.
