I am not an engineer, but I have a couple of questions.
If you could buy a device that would add a fine mist of oil to the fuel/air mix of a 4-cycle gasoline engine, would you buy one?
-and-
Is there any benefit to adding oil to the gas of a 4-cycle engine?
If the answers are no, then I don't understand why a catch can is a waste of money.
For the record,
I do not believe that adding a catch can:
1. increases the life of the engine.
2. increases the HP of the engine.
3. increases the MPG of the engine.
I do believe it helps keep the throttle body clean,
and I also wonder if adding a little oil to the gas mixture actually reduces the octane rating of the the gasoline.
If it saves me the time of having to remove and clean the throttle body, even 2-3 times over the life of the vehicle, I figure it was worth the $120. I paid for it.
We hope this is the last truck we ever buy.
For the record, our last truck was a 2001 ram 1500 6cyl, manual transmission with 170K. Great truck, no problems, no mods at all.
Probably still be driving it today if the cement truck didn't have other plans.
