This is the second time my truck has engaged the breaks while I’m backing up for no reason . Just a normal reverse with nothing behind me and the truck does a safety brake. Today it did it and the only thing in site was my neighbor’s dog that was across the street in its yard! Did I disable it by unchecking the box?

Yes, mine is unchecked and no longer does the auto braking, it's done it twice to me and scared the ever living **** out of me.

Thanks for the replies. It is quite the experience for those yet to have it.

Feels like you hit something and the transmission blew up all at the same time. I was waiting for late airbag deployment

O could not back out of a parking in spot in Sam's until I disabled it the first week I had the truck. I sensed the curb.

Sounds like a great feature FCA!
Oh, it is a great feature. Have you ever seen Asians trying to park those tiny cars? Before you all start to call be racist. First of all I am an American of Chinese and Filipino background. But, then there are all those videos of all kinds of people that can't even park is spaces that are 3 or times bigger than their cars.

I disabled mine too. I don't like those types of nanny features. The sales person even advised me to disable it. You know there's a problem when even their own people are advising against using it.

It is a great feature provided you don’t have a sloped driveway or other obstacle at the end of your driveway. However, it is useless when disabled like I saw on Saturday. At a local restaurant, another 2019 Ram 1500 backing into a parking space with a concrete light pole in the center of the space about 6” from the curb. He backed right into it and dented his bumper. I saw it and walked over to view the damage with him. I asked if he had the brake assist disabled and he said yes...then asked if it would have prevented this. I explained how it worked and he informed me he turns it off because he backs into his garage and it slams on the brakes. It will prevent back up accidents but only if it’s on...

Personally, I’ve had Rams with the rear camera since they first came out and have always used it so I disabled the parking sensors as soon as I took possession of my 2019.

I haven’t disabled mine. I just turn off the park sensors.

Question: is speed a factor? And or, is applying some pressure on the brakes a factor? I was backing into a spot in a parking garage, using the backup camera and park sensors thinking the brakes would kick in at some point, they didn’t. I stopped before bumping the wall but was no more than 2” away. I was creeping back with my foot on the brakes. Would this be why the brakes didn’t set? Just trying to determine the parameters.

I had pressure on the breaks as I always do backing up.

YES, mine is on but I turn off rear if needed. OVER 7 mph, sensors do not work when backing up. Pressure on the brake, no factor. If the system is enabled, it will lock em up and PPL will look at U like U lost yer mind. . I was backing up near a restaurant and the sensors "sensed" a tree/bush that I was not concerned about, but the Truck was, and locked em up, and got the warning in the EVIC. I was like WTF? And yes, on steep driveways and such, system a PITA also, so I turn off when in those situations. NO need to go into EVIC, just hit switch and turn off rear sensors..

1MORE: As stated above, that is how U turn off

I also turned mine off shortly after the 1st time it happened.

One of the first "features" I turned off. This is an example of how going overboard in mitigating risk just results in increased risk. The feature is too sensitive and brakes too forcefully, causing most of us to turn it off. If it were less sensitive and didn't brake quite so hard we'd probably leave it on, with a resulting reduction in risk of backing into something. Like how draconian password rules just drive people to write their passwords down instead.

There is a technical service bulletin that addresses this issue which will be performed under factory warranty. Just tell them that the rear brake assist is too aggressive and they will update the module firmware.

That's the first time I heard this. I will ask when my new truck gets delivered.

Mine did it 1st day I brought home. Nothing there just a slight slope in my driveway. I was ready to take back as I had no clue what the **** had just happen. Parked and went out of town for 2 weeks . Wife drove about a week in. My ring doorbell kept going off so I look to see what gives.same thing with the wife. I read the entire 00 pages to know and understand everything/ feature on truck. Turned off and had them due update. Still sensitive. Been off about a month now

Rear Parksense with auto Braking. Sweet baby Jesus. How did we survive backing up in the past? Too bad you couldn't delete that feature from the order and save $500. 100 years from now we might not even have the ability to crane our necks to manually check when reversing with all the convenience toys available to reduce us having to move our body parts
