First side came off no problem. Other side no such luck. I've tried everything short of welding another nut on top and using that as a counter since the current is completely stripped. Currently soaking in penetrating oil and gonna try and beat on it some more in the morning.

a nut splitter. Pretty handy in the right situation.

This one's by snap-on, but there are much cheaper versions, they just won't last as long. As long as that nut sticks up a little bit, it might work. you don't have to split the whole nut, just reduce the frozen surface area.

Looks like a handy little device, but I don't think I could get it on the nut with the rubber surrounding it.

I had your exact issue, spent more time phoking with that one top nut then doing the whole rest of the job.
I ended up putting a piece of rubber on the shock shaft just above tube and putting a large set of vice grips on that. Rubber is to keep from scoring the shaft.
Then put my impact on the nut and held on to vice grips. Phoking nut spun right off.
Don't think this is ideal but it worked for me.

All you need to do to get the top nut off is blast it with an impact wrench.

Air.

Trust me I have lol worked like a charm on the drivers side. Not so much on the passenger side.

Same on mine, entire shaft was just turning, so I was getting no where on the one, once I vice gripped it was able to break free.

I'm going to give that a shot before I cut it off. I'll let you know how it turns out.

So when you are using an impact to get that nut off, the strut shaft is spinning right?

Like mentioned above, if you're replacing the strut, just take a pair of vice grips and lock it down and it come loose in a second. Works like a charm.

If you're not replacing the strut and you don't want to damage the shaft, do as mentioned above and use a leather strap of some sort, wrap it around it and then use a pair of vice grips.

I've done probably 6 leveling kits for myself and friends. I've had to use this trick on at least once on every truck.

^^^ I agree. Put a vise grip on the shaft of the strut and the top nut will come right off.

Sitting at 39.5 in all corners and rides much better than stock with the bilstein's. Any idea how much it will settle?
