What @Wild one wrote is correct. It doesn't matter if you put smaller or larger tires. It's speedo that affects limiter.

In new 5th gen(maybe new 4th gens too? ) I can't put correct value in for rim/tires in my truck. So I'm off by 3KM. Before I took off the limiter with HP. It would limit to 170KM even if I wasn't physically going that speed.

verified when Mr. Policeman gave me ticket with his radar gun :)

I had an 87 z28 with the 4 barrel carb that I took with me on posting to Baden-Soellingen Germany. Swapped out the north american speedo (max 160 kmh) for a euro version (240 kmh?)

I used to regularly cruise up to the US AFB in Frankfurt Am Main. The longest unlimited speed zone allowed me to hit 110 mph fairly quickly, but it usually took most of the rest of the zone for the next 10 mph thanks to my north american gearing.

I never found an unlimited zone long enough to get all the way up to the speedometer's max speed, top gear used to inch up maybe 5 mph per 5 or 10 kms after 110 mph, but since it didn't have abs brakes, I really wasn't disappointed. Always wished that I had the money back then to swap for the euro transmission with better speed gearing.

And I was never envious of the ferraris and lambos that would constantly whip past me, just to have to pull off for fuel at the next stop.

These days I'm pretty sure that I would never try those speeds again. 90 mph is good enough for me in a pinch.
My last couple years in Europe, I used to run between 140 and 180 KPH in my 74 280 SL four-door Mercedes. The only problem was being able to save up enough fuel coupons to run like that and not buy gas on the economy. That Mercedes had to twin two barrel carburetors on the straight six motor and it would do about 210 if I really pushed it but not really. I was happy but I was no match for the seven series BMWs the hopped up Mercedes and then 959 Porsches, no chance at all all.

Hell i didn't even know the steering wheel turned till i left SaskaBush,i thought it was something you hung onto so you could shift your a$$ around on the seat after you'd been driving for several hours in a straight line, lol. Great province to find out how fast something would go though ;) :Big Laugh:

I have lived most of my 61 years in Edmonton Alberta Canada . When I was younger I was like wild one always had to find the limit of every thing I drove or road. A couple of unfortunate events and I am no longer in that frame of mind anymore. Now I build my truck for reliability and comfort while driving and camping.
