So I pulled my transmission to get it rebuilt and was wondering what the factory stall is on the torque converters it's a 04 rcsb with the 5.7

If you have the extra coin then a 2600 edge would be a good upgrade. Hit Matt up at Moe's and he will get Andre to cut you a verter for your current mods and what ya want to add.

Not all aftermarket converters are built alike. I dont know what your trans shop is charging, or what they are going to be doing to your converter, but I would highly recommend looking into an Edge converter before making your final decision. They have built thousands of converters for the 545RFE, and it will be very hard to find a converter that performs as well with the same street manners as the stock converter.

I don't have the money for a edge right now. I think they just
cut down the fins

My advice would be to just leave the converter alone. I would feel much more confortable with a stock converter than one that was just cut open with some bent fins. If you are going to swap the converter, then just save up and do it right once. It will be cheaper in the end than risking damage to your transmission if your "modified" converter fails.

From what your saying I would just have the shop do a good clean. Make sure the flush the lines and cooler also if you had a clutch pack failure.

Nothing is free though? I recommend spending the money on an Edge (I have one in my Hemi Car) or buy a TCI Breakaway (2600) which I run in my Truck or Get a 4.7 Converter as I heard they have a Higher stall. With all do respect to your shop the Hemi Trans 545RFE should have a well made and proven TC. You need to spend the extra 60 bucks and get them to install the Transgo HD Shift Kit and good time to install the big Honkin clip in deep that comes with it. since you have an 04 I would not put in the resistor for line boost cause if you get a Tuner it will have to come out. Also a Sonnax Line booster 85 bucks is also a must. Finally the Bullet proof clutches are I think 750 a Kit but you'll be fine with new OEM replacements. stay outta 2nd gear prime when you get her back.
Good Luck and you should really follow Matt and Kens advice.

I thoroughly enjoy my APS verter. I would absolutely spend the coin on a know manufacturer that has worked on hemi trucks. Trucks and cars are very different animals. One screw up on their part and you could be buying a whole new trans.

Also do not go to high on stall unless you know exactly what you are doing with it. To high and it will be a ***** to drive, to low and you won't have enough off the line. Mine was great at 2800 with nothing engine wise done BUT it also complimented my cam very nicely too when it was put in. Plus an actual performance tc gives you at minimum 25-30 extra rwhp as they free up the drivetrain loss. I doubt just a reworked or overhaulded stocker can do that.

I have an edge with 3200 stall. I have the old one wheeler peeler with 3.92 gears stock so with the mods the one wheel just spins like crazy. If you have limited slip I'd upgrade it. Now I have to upgrade my rear end!

I Think Thomas has Left the Building. So we Have The Texas Converter Outfit, and good feedback on the TCI, EDGE, and APS.

Yeah I'm just getting into the motorhead stuff. I knew the difference between the two drives, but wasn't sure what my truck had. Brought it to the shop and they took it apart and told me it was so. That shop told me it would be $1200 to upgrade to LSD. I need to hit a couple more shops and see what kind of estimates I get.

Was gonna Mention that. Alot of stall for a Ram unless its an SC with Big Cam (Perfect for a 6.1 application and I have one of those laying around Too). Thats a Good Price cause Labour on the Rear Gears is about 5 Hrs. As I think I meantioned previous, reason I went With The TCI Break-away 2600 is that I Tow, Otherwise would have Gone 2800.

Got a Fresh Edge 3000 for my Nag-1 just waiting for install and Hoping it will get me going sideways at the WOT 1-2 at 6K in D.

OK Done Jacking the Thread, Back to the OP, have we convinced you Yet or has the Torch been fired up to bend the OEM Fins, Internal bearings on the wear surfaces is what really needs to be done, etc, etc.
