Just checking to see if anybody is successfully towing a large toy hauler fifth wheel with their 2500? Mine's a MegaCab Laramie CTD and I love it, pulls my current 32' TT like a champ. I'm looking to upgrade to a Toy Hauler and a RZR, and the only problem with my truck is payload is a bit shy of 2k total. Looks like pin weight on most large 5ers is above 2k dry.

Seems my options at this point are:

1. Settling for a Toy Hauler TT. Selection is limited and I can't find one I like that isn't damn near 40 feet long. If I'm going that long, I would want it to be 5er.

2. Upgrade to 3500.

I'm leaning towards 2, but obviously that's going to be $$$, especially to re-do all the upgrades I've done to my truck. Wanted to get some opinions or feedback from anybody who is pulling a Toy Hauler 5th wheel with a Laramie 2500 (preferably MegaCab)?

I just bought a XLR Boost 27 QB by Forest River. It is a 27' TT toy hauler. My plan was to get a golf cart to go in it for use in shooting sporting clays. It looks big enough to fit my Ranger Crew, but I haven't measured yet. Any way it is only 6500# dry. There are a few bigger models. Towed it home last week and did not feel comfortable with my 2017 Ram 1500. Figured when I got it loaded I would feel very uncomfortable, so I bit the bullet and got a 2018 2500.

Do you have a 4x4 or 4x2?

I've actually been looking at the XLR Boost line, in particular the 31QB (but damn near 40 feet). Seems like one of the few longer Toy Hauler TTs, and I'm sure my 2500 would haul them fine. But if you look at the 5'ers, the "smallest" one with no tipouts (33RZR16) clocks in with a pin weight of 1950 pounds, leaving me no room for people or gear.

It's a 4x4.

2500 is the same truck as the 3500 except for some rear suspension that can pretty easily be made up for (airbags, etc.). Payload is artificially low on 2500 trucks to keep them under 10,000 GVWR and keep them in a certain class.

The main result of the low GVWR is that payload is low. You can be well over payload but under axle and tire weights. This is the point of endless arguing among truck owners and folks towing RVs. I personally am way more aware of axle and tire weights and don't worry as much about payload. Just do some research and decide what you are comfortable with.
