So my rig is a 2014 2500 6.4L. With a trailer that is around 7,000 lbs, will I need a WDH or some type of sway control? Trailer is 30ft. I know I'm rated to tow 15,000 pounds, just wondered about control.

30'? Yeah, even with a 2500 sway can be an issue if you're not careful. You'll already require a weight distro hitch based on the tongue weight (that's a law in most places no matter the size of the tow vehicle) so might as well get a good one with the integrated sway control. Better to have it and not need it...

Yes, you will need anti-sway and WD.

I have a WD hitch and a sway bar but my sway bar is crap (the type with the break). As expensive as it is I think I'm going to go get a Hensley. They guarantee sway elimination based on their design. Anyone else used a Hensley before?

Same truck and very similar trailer here. Yes to the sway control 100% of the time. WDH? I have it and use it most of the time but I honestly don't notice much difference w/o it. The tongue of my trailer is +/- 1000# while the payload of my truck is around 3000#.

Check out the Propride, Hensley designed it and left his original company to restart this one. Improves on the design and weights a bit less.

Spent the weekend chatting with several who had both the Hensley and Propride, we're pretty much sold. We've been using a Reese dualcam as that came with the Airstream, but when we get to New York, I'll probably be switching to the Propride. Setup is one time and hook up is mind-boggling fast.

To the OP, a good WD/Anti-sway is worth it's weight in gold. Don't be one of the guys who thinks they can just tow on the ball however they want because they have a big truck. Over confidence kills.

I don't think 6 inches will be enough, here is a 6 inch drop Reese on my truck

Went to this from a 4 inch. With a weight distribution setup you aren't on the bottom.

Well it appears the 30 footer is going to be too long for where we want to camp. So we are limiting ourselves to a 26. Looked at a jayco 26BH without slides and the dry hitch weight was only 420. I honestly do not see the need to have a WDH for this. Am I wrong in thinking that? And yeah I'll need about a 10" drop. What are our stock trucks running for a drop?

Re: needing a weight distribution hitch. The dry tongue weight will likely increase significantly from the brochure. My 26' Jayfeather has a dry tongue weight of 530lbs, but when loaded for the road without water it can push 650- 750 lbs.
Your manual can tell you whether to use one, also check regulations in your area as well as areas you'll be towing through. Some areas require it if your trailer grosses more than a certain amount. It has to do with the attitude of your steer axle in hard braking and maneuvering situations.

You won't need anything insane for a 26', but don't get junk either. I love my Blue Ox, and others have their own preferred brand.

With a 2500 you have way more than enough truck, but certain items apply to all light duty trucks across the board, regardless of chassis.

I run a 6" drop on a 2" ball mount because nothing that requires a 2" ball is gonna have enough tounge weight to make it squat. The one trailer at work we needed the forklift to get it on because it wouldnt jack up high enough to reach my 3" drop mount.

Seriously doubt you will need the anti sway hitch if tongue weight is only in the 5 to 600# range. That said, I tow a 5'er with over a 3200# pin weight and is amazingly stable. I would be surprised if you have problems. Just make sure your ball height is correct. My thoughts.

Ball height is going to be the issue I feel I am going to run into. I'm guessing I will need a 10" drop.

My truck stock was on 17's with 31" tires. Now I'm on 20's with 35's. I used a 10" drop and everything is perfect.

What size lift are you on? I have an 8 inch lift but the rear sits about an inch lower than the front. I also have 20's and 37's. Maybe a 12" drop?

I have a 6" suspension lift but I only went up 4" in the back so is be level. I measured my ball height before so I already knew I needed a 10" drop. It's perfect.
