Which lasts longer on our heavy trucks? Toyo Open Country MT or Nitto Trail Grappler MT? Going to size 295/70/18 when the crappy stock tires wear out in the next 5 or 6k miles. Currently have almost 24k on them.

30k is about all they are good for

I had the Toyo MT's and they are nice, Running the RT's now, not as aggressive, but more aggressive than the AT's

How do you like the RT's? I like those, but they don't come in the size I want. I'd have to get 285/75/18.

Both are going to wear very similarly. They're essentially the same tire just with a different tread and sidewall design.

Would you say they are better than some other mud tires such as, Cooper, **** Cepek, Mickey Thompson? Those are the other brands of mud tires that come in 295/70/18

As far as wearing goes I'd stay away from Mickey Thompsons. I know of a handful of guys that haven't been impressed with their lifespan. I don't have much experience with either Cooper or **** Cepek. The most popular MT's out there are definitely the Nitto's and the Toyo's and that's because they have been proven to be a great tire. They're definitely at the top of my list.

The other company you could look at is Patriot Tires. I'm not sure if they make the exact size that you're looking for yet. But their tires were built for HD trucks and the extra weight involved with that.

BFG or Goodyear. Toyo is the parent company of Nitro.

As for the AT tires I vote Toyo. Have them on both my trucks and some coworkers have the nitto. I asked them about their nitto before I selected my tires and they all were giving me low to high 30 thousand range and some of them get every dime out of their tires. My 1500 has 32,000 on the Toyo AT and I would say they have 40% thread left.

Toyo R/T's = 45K warranty

If you go with the Toyo AT2 LT tires the treadwear warranty drops to 50,000 miles.

I have used both..Both are excellent. I now always use Toyo MT for all my trucks just because I like the look.

I got 60k+ out of my last set of nitto terra grappler g2. Not as aggressive as what your looking for but still a damn capable tire.

Toyo makes Nitto's oil filters.

Which is made at champion labs which is owned by FRAM Group?? For the price of the lower brands you spend a few extra dollars and get to top tier.

Any LT tire with a tread wear warranty is a hard rubber compound. They have the looks of an agressive tire and characteristic of passenger all seasons.

I have 24,*** miles on my Trail Grapplers and they are about cooked..... BFG KO2s are going on next.

On my three rigs I have run the following in addition to the Trails:
Duratracs
General Grappler AT2s
Terra Grapplers
Yokohama ?
Kumho KL78s
BFG Semi Rugged Trails....

Of those the most impressive on wear were the Generals, but they are on a lighter 2001 Tundra and they have about 50K on them and still have good tread left. The Duratracs were the best all around tire I had in load range E.

The Terra Grapplers were the least impressive in damn near everything and I pulled them off my F250 with only 20K on them and they are stacked on my driveway rotting away. Never hated a tire more.

The second set of Nittos wouldn't have been my choice for this truck and will be replaced soon.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm liking the looks of the Toyo RT's. Will 35/12.5/18 fit without a level on stock wheels on a crew cab 4x4?

The Cummins owners on another forum swear that the Toyo tires outlast the Nittos. They also complain that BFG AT KO's wear quickly on our trucks. But I've always easily reached 60k miles out of them but that was on 1/2 ton trucks and Jeeps. Toyo and Nitto are part of the same company but some think Toyo uses a stiffer rubber compound. Both are excellent tires.

My experience with the BFG a/t K02 was similar to yours. I had them on a 2014 CCSB big horn 6.7L and used the truck every day in the oilfield ( I was a manager, so I wasn't towing every single day, more like a few times a month) and i got 58k out of my first set and the second set was still on the truck at 107k miles when I got rid of it. I'm a huge fan of the K02s

I'm looking at the nitto terra grappler g2, had them in my 1500 but not long enough to get a good feel for them.

You can not compare how a tire dos on a half ton to a 3/4 ton. On my half ton I ran treadwrights- Loves those things- Out performed everything- I'm wearing of putting them on my 3/4 ton since they are a retread.
