So. Just installed my new wheels and tires this past weekend. Came pre-mounted and balanced (that’s another story) with supposedly pre programmed sensors from Mr. Wheel Deal (Custom Offsets). All was fine for three days then all of the sudden while driving I get an error. Not a single tire pressure is being read. None.

I searched and found several very old threads but many say different things. I know we have 433mhz frequency and have scanners in top of wheel well. Some say the truck should read the new sensors automatically and some say it needs reset so to speak.

I emailed Mr. Wheel Deal and was told they are “Mopar OEM sensors programed to my 2017 Ram and should sync automatically”. But that sometimes the truck needs to be manually synced. Suggested I go to a national chain like Discount Tire due to them having more knowledge and available scan tools. Well. The closest “national chain” to me is 2 hours away.

Am I being fed and have bad sensors or do I need them synced? Straight answer and I’ve searched and gotten both sides of the coin.

Thanks.

If you have AlphaOBD, you can re-flash the tire computer.

I did not know that. Hmm. Been thinking of getting it with my Dad and splitting the cost since we both want DRLs.
Thanks.

Anyone else have any thoughts? That mean they do need to be re-synced and this whole drive for 10 minutes over 30mph is bull?

On both my Challenger and my Ram when I got new wheels and sensors, by the time I drove about 5 blocks they where synced up and reading on the EVIC. If they worked for awhile then they should be the correct ones for your truck..... I did have problems on my Ram when they originally put aftermarket sensors in where they would read for about 10-15 mins and then go dead with the "---" on the EVIC. Dealership said the Rams have had trouble with aftermarket ones and replaced them with OEM ones and I haven't had a problem since.

I bought the cheapest ones on Amazon and put them in my new tires/wheels. They were working within 2 minutes of leaving the tire shop. If they are correct, the truck should auto-learn them. Most every tire place has one of those little tools to reset the sensors. When they are brand new off the shelf, they generally need to be "turned on" because they are in a state to preserve the batteries before use. Yours working for a couple days kinda throws a wrench into that theory, but who knows. You may have seen this already, but a little info that may help.

I can guarantee they are not Mopar OEM, I contacted them for the issue of them not syncing to my truck at all (bought wheels a month ago) they told me they are the universal brand ITM. They would never sell you the MOPAR ones for $179 like they do with the option when you purchase. I am in the process of having my MOPAR ones taken out of my old wheels and put in my new ones. I went to 6 shops and non could get them to work, I am in the process of trying to obtain a refund from Custom Offsets which is proving difficult

Also the dealership will refuse to work on them. They quoted me $250 a wheel for new TPMS and install

Yea that's way too much. If you order them from Tire Rack you'll get the OEM from the company that makes them for FCA/Mercedes/Etc. (Schrader 433MHz sensors) for about $40 a pop. They won't have Mopar part numbers, but they are the same exact sensors if you tear them down. The part number Tire Rack shows are for Mercedes OE sensors, but that's due to all the shared parts from the Daimler Chrysler days. Using the tire rack sensors with SRT metal valve stems on both my 392 with wider SRT replica's and on my Ram with Methods. Haven't had a single issue like I've had on other vehicles using cheapo "universal" sensors.

blast them on social media. should get their attention. i almost ordered from them but they wanted 200 more for the same tires. would not price match. i ordered through bbwheelsonline. mine come separately not balanced or mounted. i got tpms from them so i will see if they work right. i tried to cancel the tpms order but it already shipped. i wanted a local dealer responsible for them working. but oh well. time will tell. good luck. pretty sorry they wont stand behind the tpms

All of this is what I was afraid of. Especially that I would have to have the tires torn down and my old sensors or at least other ones put in. Planning on going to a local shop for alignment tomorrow so I’ll ask them.

I had the weights come off two of the wheels during shipment. One I could see the imprint from where it went and could stick it back in same place. Other one I had to guess and I guessed wrong. Thing vibrates something awful. Stuck those two tires on the rear.

Other than that they were fine. Shipment was quick. Everything packaged well. No scratches. They had best price out of everyone. I had trouble finding the P metric Ridge Grapplers. Everyone else just had the LT which I did not want.

But this mess just annoys me. Like someone said above when I pay $179 extra I expect them to work. It was easily over 100 miles during those three days that they worked fine. I’ll post on here what I find out tomorrow. Grrrrr

Well I’ll be a monkey’s uncle.

Stopped by a local shop and they verified all sensors were sending. Plugged a scanner into OBD port and essentially restarted the TPMS system. Took five minutes and didn’t charge a dime.

I emailed Mr Wheel Deal about the balancing. They agreed to reimburse me for up to $20 a wheel for all four. The same shop is also the only shop around that does road force balancing. For $16.50 a wheel. So I’m getting all four done at once.

Let’s see how this fixes it.

When I recently installed my new wheels and tires, I had a similar experience. Everything was fine for a day or so. Then, I would get the error message and none of the tire pressures would display. It turned out one of the sensors was not emitting a signal. The tire shop told me that with the RAMs, the vehicle will not "learn" the new sensors unless all 4 wheels are sending a signal. I ordered 4 new sensors and the tire shop replaced the one that was not reading (at no charge) and the TPMS started working that same day.

I had all four corners rebalanced on a road force machine. Ended up having to remount them all as they had the balance beads in them and wouldn’t balance properly on the machine. That was an additional $8 per corner.

Mr Wheel Deal ended up paying the full amount of remount and balancing. Already reimbursed me. Can’t fuss at the service at all.

So now my TPMS works and it rides like a dream with no additional cost to me as it should be.

I’m happy.

I just wish I would’ve known I needed to have the TPMS reprogrammed so to speak. I could’ve planned it out with my alignment and whatnot but it’s all good now.

I ordered wheels from Custom Offsets and took a week longer to get to my house than they said and also sent the wrong ones. Took a week to tell me that "Well the pictures are stock photos and don't necessarily reflect the exact model". I was close to deploying and didn't have time to wait for replacements so just used them. I won't use CO again though.

I was hesitant myself. I thought it was a great idea to get them shipped to my door ready to put on. Never again. I’ll have it done myself. Other than the balance issues, I’m satisfied honestly.

And for those wondering, Custom Offsets, Mr Wheel Deal, Anthem Off Road, and SD Wheels are all the same company.

I bought my wheels from SD and was very happy with the price, delivery time, condition of the wheels at arrival, and follow-up by their team.
