Ok, this has been an adventure or nightmare depending on what day we’re talking about. I successfully removed a bad engine and installed a new one. It ran like crap like most people here have experienced when you dig into one of these trucks. I figured most of it out thanks to everyone who helped along the way. First I had to get an old scan tool to check fuel sync then had to replace the catalytic converter and O2 sensors since the originals were fouled and clogged with oil/coolant from the old engine. This made a world of difference, the engine runs a lot smoother now without all the bucking, popping ,hissing , and smoking it was doing before. I have a couple of things to check and work out still, first the Cat pipe is crooked from the factory and needs to be bent to enter the stock muffler, next I think we have a misfire that’s not tripping a code. When setting the sync the numbers jump from 0 to 2 and never stays steady for too long, I checked the exhaust manifolds with a temp gun and all read like in the 400 F degrees except the number 6 cylinder read in the mid 200s. It started to rain so I’ll have to check that when I get back from work this week. I’m thinking of checking spark plug wire with a spark tester first then removing the plug to see what that looks like. Also, the new Cat got red hot before I shut it all down. It must getting fuel from that dead cylinder. Everything else seemed fine, coolant temp was good and the new radiator seems to be doing its job.

Everything checked out ok on the plugs and injectors, got the exhaust done today. I’m still having issues with the engine running sloppy, it has a heavy rich fuel exhaust odor from the tailpipe. I checked the pressure on the fuel pump and it went to 70 psi then vibrates at 60 while running the engine. The psi drops to 0 right after turning off the engine, not sure if this has anything to do with engine running the way it is. Next I’ll try to test sensors, I did hook a scan tool to it and upstream O2 V goes from 0.10 to 0.63 and the Downstream O2 V show 0.02 and 0.04 only while idling, Both 02 sensors are new.
