I am new to trucks. Trying to figure out 4 wheel drive and traction control. I live in Michigan. We have snow in the winter. When the roads are dry do I leave traction control off and set 2 wheel drive? And in the winter do I used 4 wheel auto and traction control on. Am I thinking correctly or is it more complex?

Traction control in these modern rigs is pretty dang good. It’s not like the old days where it just reduced throttle and kept you stuck. Most of the time it helps you get unstuck since it’s running the ABS module. Sometimes you need raw wheel spin and that’s really the only time to disable it now. Even then it turns back on at speed unless you’re in 4 low.

What @stimpy433 stated, leave the traction control on and use 4X4 as needed. With the Auto 4X4 system is much more flexible and forgiving for leaving it on when the roads go from snow to dry.

I leave traction control on and use 4 wheel auto..I have made 5 ski trips in the new mexico mountains on snow covered roads with my '19 and even tho I am flatlander, have had no problem getting around. mine has the Falken wildpeak tires...dont know if that is good or bad but they seem to do fine in those conditions. dont let 4wd get you into trouble your tires cant handle tho..icey conditions are a whole nuther story.
