My friend just bought a Rebel this past weekend. He was looking at some of the other 1500's but thought the Rebel had a more aggressive look, which it does. Not a cheap vehicle, but they do have some good rebates now and 0% financing through FCA. His is mineral grey, which is a nice color on this model. The air suspension is also nice, plus it gives you an off road mode (higher) plus the Bilstein shocks. Interior is a bit of a love it or hate it thing, with the red higlights and tire tread seat imprints. Whole truck is done in the blackout theme, which helps make the oversized tailgate letters look a little better.

I have actually contemplated doing this as well. I don't need a Rebel but it's SHINY!

The unfortunate part about this is AB is right. You will take a loss or it is going to cost you more somehow. A 2014 Sport is not equal in value to a 2016 Rebel.

Now, on the other hand, if you want the vehicle and are willing to take on the extra costs (in your example, the extra payments) then why not.

Just don't do it because a sales guy makes it seem like a straight swap. Do it because you want to!

Also, if you decide to do it then play hardball to get a killer price. You have an awesome vehicle right now and you can afford to walk away if you don't get an amazing deal.

I couldnt agree with the you live once statement!

you earned what you have so why not enjoy it tomorrow is not given.

with all the tools that are out there today you can get an good estimate for what monthly payments will be based on the total amount financed. when i got my new truck last july i knew that i wanted to lower my montly payment by $50/mo, so i knew what i needed for a out the door financed price had to be.

I totally agree- I've lost my best and only friend I ever had on a tree (hanging there with his Aprilia RSV Mille Factory- if anybody knows what that is). Personally, if I would not had my leather, back protector, helmet and other safety gear, I would had been dead twice already, also (yeah- also one of the reasons why I gave up motorcycle racing and had to quit riding due to injuries I still laborating on). I also learned, money is not everything- one day you've got it- the other day you don't. but what's worth in life has nothing to do with it. watching a sundown on the lake at the fire with a beer in your hand, knowing you almost never been able to see it again - you can't buy this with any money in the world.
BUT- before I sit there and know, I have to eat Rahmen Noodles for the next 8 years because of truck payments.... I don't know if any payments for any toys are worth it. because if you don't die and have another day, you got to get around somehow...
Get the best for what you've got would describe it more accurate. :favorites13:

I prefer the sport but I do like the Rebel for what it is. I drive 100% on road so I don't really need the offroad package, I also don't care for the black plastic front end on the Rebel. I'm probably going to trade my quad cab 2014 sport in about a year for a crew cab sport.

Only thing about the Rebel I am not a fan of is the Red leather. Especially if the truck is anything other then black. Other then that, it is growing on me.

if only it was leather. its vinyl. thats one thing i was having a hard time with getting past when i was looking at the rebel. the damn vinyl seats just felt.....off.

There's a balance necessary in the "You won't live forever" theory. There's nothing wrong with having the things you want if you can afford them but the problem with the theory is most of us will live a reasonable length of time and there is nothing more uncomfortable than being old and not being able to afford to live comfortably.

I'm lucky, 73, good health, have my home paid for and enough of an income to be able to enjoy my dotage. I can't afford comfortably a new 50K Ram but a used 14 Sport was well within the budget.

I have a couple of friends that spent to much while young and can't enjoy the elder years.

So the advice from a codger is balance your drive to own everything now with the fact that you will probably make at least my age. If both are comfortable in your mind than forge ahead fearlessly.

Vinyl is 100xs better than leather .

IMO

some vinyl looks and feels just like leather and is more durable. whats in the rebel is almost rubber like. just felt weird, imo. it wasnt horrible, i just dont know if i could get used to it. would rather have all cloth then what they are using. im sure its much easier to clean which is why they are using it.

I know that Aprilia!!! Rode one once..
Been a rider since I was 10. Also almost died by a gunshot to the chest by a dude trying to carjack me. Maybe that's why I have the you only live once attitude. When paramedics were working on me and I was fighting to breath it wasn't my car, motorcycles, guitars or money I was thinking of, it was my family. Work hard buy some toys but keep it on perspective. Seriously though go buy that fkin Rebel!!!

Nope, spend february in Florida but to much danger of bursting into flames in the heat of summer.:)

If I were to move you are probably as far south as i would go. Northern Michigan is great 8 months a year. :favorites13:

I know you are feeling that new car ich...but personally, If they are talking just monthly payments, I would start with at least $50 less a month on what you currently pay.

It does 2 things.

1. Numbers play in your favor (make sure it's $50 or more less a month, and not a month longer that 72 months..even better go with 60 months)
2. Put the ball on their court.

You got to push these guys hard...plus it's the end of the month, so you can push them harder...come April first...they will take it off the table. You can always walk away.

I would never do it for the sole purpose in that I want to pay off my truck to get something else. I have less than 2 years left. I'm having the dodge charger ich really bad.

This is actually really bad advice and will set him up for a terrible experience.

You need to start from a position of knowledge. How much does the truck typically go for? What kind of monthly payment does that equate to on a loan length you are willing to take on.

Once you know your baseline cost/monthly payment/term you can start to work it down. This ensures that you reach for a deal that is reasonable for both parties. It might take a lot of reasonable arguments but as long as it is reasonable you should be golden.

TL;DR: you can't work a $500 monthly payment down to $300.

I think the point that people are making is that as a consumer, we can dictate anything he wants...and if the salesman wants him really bad, he can actually make out on the deal. The position of knowledge comes down to how much is he willing to do..and we don't know anything about the finances of what he is trying to do. With a rebel, I can't imagine there is alot of wiggle room as far as rebates...but the end result.. of he is happy, and is paying less, all is well.

Easy... I had the option of a Rebel or Sport...question yourself, do u want a "sporty" look or a "rugged/aggressive" look? Personally, I like the sportier look...I don't like the Rebel tailgate, the interior...but thats me...the truck looked kinda fake...just my opinion...good luck

Personally I love my 2014 Sport 4x4. Not really interested in upgrading or trading for something else. Low miles, great vehicle and meets all my needs. I've owned way too many vehicles over the years as I am a "car" person in general. That means there is always something new (or old) and shiny that catches my eye.

I was fortunate that I walked in and paid cash for my truck. The wife and I had a lot of fun. I had all the power. I had information on pricing and knew what I wanted and needed. I didn't need their financing. Most importantly I had a calculator to check numbers and alligator blood to fight for the deal I wanted. If they didn't give it to me, I would buy elsewhere. I was pretty open about my expectations and there wasn't much of a ******** factor to deal with. I say much because you are in a car dealership, it is embedded in their blood to a degree.

Unfortunately the copy in a nearby office was not having as much fun. We overheard a debate between 84 and 96 month payments and near $1,000 /mo payments. All for a Cherokee SRT. I don't know all their details but I told my wife if we are ever debating those issues we shouldn't be buying a car.

Anyhow good luck with your decision. Don't fall for their traps. Buy only when you are ready and when it fits your needs and financial constraints. My personal vote is to keep the Sport but yo know your situation best.

Thinking About Trading In my 2014 Ram Sport for a 2016 Rebel... Anyone on here have the Rebel an can give me your thoughts on the truck? Only reason im considering it is because when in for an oil change they made me a wicked offer on my Sport and Can get me into a Rebel for the Same payment possibly less with 0% financing......Let me hear it people...

So I'm not going to address any of the finance issues, since that's not your question...

I have a 2015 Rebel, and I love it, traded a 2014 Laramie for it and the best thing I ever did... Rides like a dream, looks unique, have not seen another on the road in 9 months, love the ram boxes, and interior... Comments are always positive... Financing aside, if its the truck you want, go for it...

Dude, you got one shot up in this bi-ch !! So if you like that rig, do your research and buy what you want. But make sure its what you want. I am a big believer of spending what ever money and buying what you want ONCE. Once you buy it, stick it with and honour your commitment. Money comes and goes and half the time I don't even know where it goes. And it aint going to your grave either. So spend it as long as you're not drowning in debt !!!

Personally I think the Rebel is so cheesy. Hec I honestly wouldn't take it for free cause it just looks like a wanna be Raptor and wayyyyyyyyyy to much plastic. However, this is about what you want. Everyone has different tastes.

I have the Big Horn and sometimes I wish I bought a Sport. But guess what, I signed the contract. And ill live to my commitment :) No body held a gun to my head. Next time around, Ill choose more wisely.

Sorry for the rant
