Have a 17 longhorn and am looking at going to an 18 longhorn. Not sold on new body so want to stay with 4th gen. For the heck of it also looked at f150's. Drove an ecoboost 3.5 plat and 5.0 plat and a king ranch 5.0. Observations: The f 150 cab is a bit larger. The hemi imho is a better engine than both of the fords in seat of pants realm, it comes on strong sooner than both, eb has turbo lag and accelerates quicker from what I could tell. The 5.0 was my choice over ecoboost as just not a fan and it felt "better"? But the coyote does not feel strong tell 2500-3000rpm plus which is where it is rated to. Granted I have 3.92's and they were both 3.55's but would not trade hemi for those. Ride: disappointed in the f 150's as felt a lot of road "chatter" and seems to have a bit more wind noise than ram. Even though my air suspension is not riding great now, feels like have a wheel out of balance and when hit bumps or road seams it vibrates like an echo still would not switch which is why looked at trading in first place. Interior, my longhorn is a better appointed setup with much nicer finishes. Towing on the f 150 is a bit higher but if going to tow that heavy would buy a super duty as gas mileage sucks. Overall would not give up the longhorn hemi for an f 150 5.0. Like the looks of the f 150 a lot but not that much. Will be trading for an 18 southfork longhorn if can get right deal set up identical to mine.

Trading a 17 for an 18 longhorn. Both same options? I’m not sure I’d ever trade for one year newer espaically the same truck. But that’s what’s great is we can all do what we like :big_banana_Dance:

"Wind noise", "Road chatter".......Its always been my impression with Ford especially anything built since the 1990's that the fit and finish was really lacking. I remember taking a new mustang for a test drive in 2010. This was before I bought my 1st Challenger and I was test driving Mustangs, Camaros, and Challengers. The damn Mustang squeaked and rattled so much I couldn't believe it was brand new. And when ever I ride around in someone's Ford it always sounds like it about to fall apart. You seem to be able to hear road noise through the "gaps" for lack of a better word. Not so with any of my Mopars including my wife's Jeep Liberty. I think I tend to be more aware of it because I own all Mopars and then when I get in a ford it really stands out.

Trading one year not best idea but as said not really liking 19 rams and this is purely business/tax driven.

I'm with you on the Longhorn, love mine. But aren't you going to take a huge hit on a one-year-old trade 17>18? Unless you are dealing with a mega dealer who just wants to move volume this will be a tough deal unless you are going to take the hit.

But hey, if you just want it and can afford, do it...

I have the lifetime maxcare on mine so it will hopefully be around for a long time unless some mobile phone using idiot get me.

Will have close to 18,000 miles on it in one year also without a lot of detail, having retired last year and winding down corp business, want the tax break. Like before one year is not ideal but business tax driven. Mostly though have been a ford man along time and driving my ram for a year and then looking at f 150's showed worth staying with ram.

Enjoy the new truck when you get it. If I was in your situation, and had the money, I would do it too!

Yeah there would be no comparison in the ride as Ford has leafs in the back to the Rams coils. As a former F150 Ecoboost 3.5 owner(2013 XLT 3.5 SCREW 3.55 gears) I will say that there doesn't seem to be a huge difference in seat of the pants feel between the two although I'm sure the 2015 and newer F150's are noticeably faster due to the lighter weight of the aluminum. The biggest factor for me would be price. A nicely loaded 2018 Limited can be had for probably mid forties right? For mid forties in an F150 all you're going to get is an XLT.

As much as I like the gen 4 Ram's I'll be trading up to a '19 Sport when they're available. The hybrid Hemi is just too tempting. Plus I like the new styling.

As for Ford. My '11 F150 always felt jittery in the rear without a load. And it was terrible with wind noise. No way in hell I'd ever go back to an F150.

Finally made deal. Found an 18 southfork longhorn, with everything my 17 had. The window sticker was 57,750. They made the deal with me for $5500 difference. The rebates and dealers wanting to move the 18's make this a great time to buy.

For business purposes I lease trucks every 3 years. I've had seven F-150s (XLT & FX4) until I got a Ram Big Horn in 2015. I wanted to get another F-150 in 2015 but that was the year they came out with the aluminum body and there were no lease deals. I reluctantly looked at Ram Big Horns and wound up getting a great deal on one.

I can't imagine ever going back to an F-150 after enjoying the superior ride, better handling, better electronics, better gas mileage (I got the gas V6), better comfort, more features for the money, etc. in the Ram. About the only thing F150 had over my Big Horn was it was quieter.

My 2015 lease is up in June and I just took delivery of a 2018 Bighorn a week ago. I did look at F-150's just to be sure I was making the right decision and I'm now I'm more sure of it than ever before. For starters I would have paid over $100 more per month on the F150 XLT lease payment for a truck with less equipment. Just getting a trailer hitch on an F-150 is an extra $995 package and if I wanted heated steering wheel (and in Minnesota you do) I would have to have gone up to a Lariat and that would have been over $200 a month more.
