The last two letters are more of a production code change. They are constantly changing. There should be no difference in the part. Normally when they update or revise a part it gets a completely different part#.

Got it in today, its almost comical how tough it is to even put the screws into the mounting bracket. Some scratches and cuts later and its in. Activated it with AlphaOBd and its good to go. Now to go buy the right enclosed trailer

Blood was drawn, bruises over both hands and wrists, but all 3 screws are in! What an unbelievable pain in the neck!

Anyways, I was about to order the Kaodtech security bypass cable as well as AlfaOBD to program the truck, but just read in another forum, that the next time the dealer installs a software update, these settings will be overwritten.

Is this true? If it is, I might spend the $140, both of our local dealers are charging, to have them program the truck.

It is too late for some to mention it now
2 screws is more than enough to hold that mounting bracket.
Some people just wrap electrical tape around the 3rd screw hole, to insure that it does not rattle while driving over rough terrain

Haha, that's what I figured but I accepted the challenge and did not want to be a quitter... ;)

Yes, if the dealer makes a flash(update)to the BCM the trailer brake code will need to be reinstalled. In many cases they actually update other modules in the truck and not the BCM so it won't bother you at all in that case. The Alfa Tool will do much more than just enable the trailer brake. It can enable other codes the dealer can't plus run diagnostics and check DTC codes. I would recommend buying it with the bypass cable and going that direction. It would still be good to have even if you do have the dealer install the trailer brake code.

Option #2 for installing the brake controller is to avoid the bracket entirely. The dash frame is robust, and a pair of heavy zip ties with a little foam keeps the controller quiet and well-restrained.

I got this advice from my dealer when kits were on back order last year. They stocked the controller and the switch, but not the mounting bracket or the kit. They said they didn't see the need to charge the customers extra for an unnecessary bracket, so I installed the switch that way and it's been good for over a year now.
