Ive always felt it sketchy to try and back up those ramps..not sure why, Im sure its fine, just feels funny doing it.

I use them to change the oil in my G37 since its so low to the ground, very handy to have. They also make a good step if you happen to need to reach further into an engine compartment.

Hi All,

Isn't there a special aftermarket transmission pan with filter for 8 speed that makes it easier to change transmission fluid and filter? Or am I thinking of aftermarket differentials covers?

Thx

There's the PPE deep pan for EcoDiesel which has the same transmission. That's what I'll be swapping to when I service mine since it holds more, is actually metal, and has replaceable filters. If I remember correctly it should clear on the Hemi without doing any exhaust re-routing, but I could be wrong.

The key to those ramps and drive dead center and make sure they don't slide, they have cones in them that will not collapse. On my gravel road you just nail a spike in where the cone is. Once the tire grabs the ramp, you are good.

How about Mag-Hytec ? Do they have a transmission pan for the 8 speed? Their site is a bit confusing

Since they mechanically heat the 8 speed and it has a very thin spec, it is a certain type pf base oil. Also, you likely need to do transfer case, is it a 4x4? Maybe h395 will pop in or PM him, he has options other then the unicorn fluid Ram asks you to use, I believe specifically for a 2014, I don't know what other years have that transfer case? Do you have the 8 speed or the 6 speed? Very different flush procedures.

Thanks Burla!

Yes it is a 2014 sport 4x4 with the 8 speed. I haven't changed any of the differential fluids either. I wanna use redline or Amsoil for the diff and tranny. Amsoil has the fluid for the tranny as well.

So just a pan/ filter changed or the tranny? I know it wont get all the fluid on the 1st drain. I was thinking of changing only fluid first before dropping pan with filter...just clear out contaminates before installing new pan with filter. Is this advisable?
Thanks.

If you find the output line, I don't know which one it is for the 8 speed, I have the 6, then you can do a full flush. Drop pan change filter and refill, then unhook out put line near trans cooler and put it into a bucket, or use a tube if it isn't bendable. As you start your truck your tranny pump will send fluid through the torque converter to the out put line, you can run a cheap tube all the way to the driver door and see when the fluid changes color. Mind you, you will have to stop the engine every time a qrt or two comes out so you can refill. But not as easy with the 8 speed as you don't have a neck. But you can still pump two qrts every time you drain two quarts. Here's the thing with the 8 speeds, I don't know how you verify the level because I don't have one. Figure out that, and you can easily do a entire fluid change, or pretty close. Drop pan - fill - unhook out put line and push out fluid 1 qrt at a time while filling back. Hint, you might have to use neutral, but your transmission will push fluid in either start or neutral.

amsoil or redline great choices.

You want to change all the fluid w/o dropping pan?

I don't really know much about flush machines and the 8 speed. Sometimes they cause issues sometimes they don't.

I have the PPE pan on my 8 sp.It's a heavy duty aluminium pan with internal and external heat sinks, that holds roughly 1.5 liters more fluid. There's a couple of us running the pan up here and we all figure it takes about 5 degrees out of the trannies operating temps in the summer.

Hello, I'm new to this forum and want to ask if anyone has done a transmission flush on their 5.7 hemi. I haven't found much info on the flush vs. Fluid change. I have 105,000 on my ram 14 sport. The manual states this is a lifetime oil. Doesn't even have a recommended fluid change interval. I pull a heavy ( bumper pull) horse trailer.
I want to change fluid because I'm sure it needs it. Thanks.

I had mine done at 90,000kms at a transmission specialist shop before towing a 7,000 lb trailer around north america for 8 months. Had a pressure switch go a year later and when they removed the pan the filter had it's side blown out and the dealer said the fluid was the wrong kind. ??? They replaced the pressure switch, filter and fluid and I've had no issues at 200,000 kms and two more years of towing a different 8,000 lb trailer. I would suggest changing fluids every 100,000 kms is good preventative mainenance.

will the tubes on this fit down the dipstick tube on the 6 speeds? I have a 2011
It should as it is larger than an oil dipstick tube. Unless your asking about length. That I am unsure as I do not have a 6 speed to measure.

My 2 cents for what it is worth

Some people swear not to mess with it at all. Some say after a lot of miles with no change leave it alone.

I believe in following the maintenance schedule recommended by the manufacturer or doing it early. Since you are towing every manual I have seen says to change at some point.

When servicing a transmission myself I have only drained the pan and replaced the filter. I know there is still some old fluid still in the hinterlands of the trans, lines, and cooler. However, I do it more often than most.

My 3 Mo Pars I have now are all under the Max Care and the service department at the dealer seems to be better than most so I tell them to do full service on the transmission about every 50,000 miles without towing. Of course if there is a problem at least I can have it repaired under the Max Care for $100 deductible and can show they were the ones doing the service.

Which ever way you go use a reliable shop. I have not had very good luck with the chain shops. They tend to like to sell rebuilt transmissions. Some dealers are OK.

DO NOT use one of those quick change oil joints. They tend to have anyone who says they can hold a wrench work there. All they want to do is sell services you don't need and they tend to do a poor job at that. My family has had too many bad experiences with them such as too much oil installed, filler cap left off, told power steering was leaking when it was only a little dirt around the cap. This is just a few of the more serious.

I inquired at the dealership about servicing my transmission on my Hemi 5.7 2015 as I tow a camper. The service manager told me that there is no way to drain and service the transmission because the drain plug will not be usable . My thoughts are that the whole pan/drain plug would need to be replace if you drain it. The extractor/filler solution listed in previous post is another option.

If you have the 8 speed, you "have" to change the pan,if you're changing the filter,as the filter is an intregal part of the pan.

Hey guy, I have an 05 HEMI 149,000mi. @132,000 I did filter, flush (it doesn't get it all), added a cooler (inline w/factory cooler) and Sonax line booster (inline chip goes in between two plugs)(didn't use the spring, gotta drop trans, plus Sonax says ok). Shifts like a beast. Can't wait to see what programmer does. But those two items (I've been told) should increase longevity.
