don’t know if I’m at the right thread. But I’m having transmission issues that I would like to hear some input of, maybe someone else had this issue. I have a 2011 ram 1500 hemi 5.7liter with 5 speed automatic transmission. I decided to act stupid and took the truck off road on loose dirt. The mistake I made is putting it into 4x4 lock position. While I was doing donuts on a loose gravel I heard a pop not sure if it was from transmission or the rocks hitting the truck. Afterward the truck turned off, I restart it put it into D and it moved 2-3ft and as if it slips out of gear when put it into P and back in D it doesn’t move at all. When putting it to R it works obviously fine. Check engine light gives code P0731 that won’t clear. When I lift the rear wheels off the ground the truck goes thru all gear with no issues up to 80mph with wheels spinning just fine. My best guess is that my transfer case. Maybe clutch pack?

Never heard of this one, you might have screwed the pooch on this deal, forgive yourself and tow it to a transmission shop after you tried every option to get it moving, try manual shift and so on. I have the same transfer case, and I hate doing anything in 4x4 with it except going to the snow. I get some noises even on wet grass that make me cringe.

Sometime fun costs us, sometimes it don't. If you f'd up the gears, use it as an excuse to upgrade.

That’s what made me confused. I’m out of town for work so trying to brainstorm some ideas.

I don't think it's transfer case, i think you may have damaged the transmission, it could be other things according to that DTC, yu'll have to trust the dealer or a trans shop for a diagnosis.

You said that reverse works but drive doesn't. That P0731 error code is that the PCM is seeing a greater than a specified RPM difference between the rotational speed of the Input RPM Sensor and the Transmission Output RPM Sensor in Gear 1
Sounds like you blew first gear, find a good transmission shop.

Okay so I’m not sure what to think now.. im 90% sure it’s not my transmission. I managed to do a burnout on my driveway. I’ll be taking it to a transmission shop in about 3-4 day. But if anyone have any input, all is thoughts and idea would be helpful.

You did a burn out in your driveway and it doesn't drive through the gears?

Your having transmission issues and decide to do a burn out as a troubleshooting step? Or it finally engaged so you got happy and celebrated doing the same thing that caused the issue in the first place?

Edit: ok, maybe this second sentence was a little below the belt so I'll try a different approach

My money is on the clutch plate in your tranny, which can explain why it isn't all the way broke.

You should ask whatever shop you bring it to if they do discounts for repeat customers because you might be back a few times

Why not try and drive it? I am missing something. You could have just gotten too much fluid in the clutch pack, and maybe now it's gone? what are the current symptoms.

and the other guy was right, maybe stop burning out for a while til you see if it is still broke.

When you have an open diff and you loose traction, the diff lowers to non traction wheel the same effort to slow the spinning wheel. In other words the wheel not spinning gets like next to no power, why people prefer lsd's, that corrects this. I't could be that is what happened and it just took a while to rebound. Maybe it is a couple possibilities that could be temporary, but you haven't even tried sticking it in drive yet?

I'm trying to "help" you realize your not "helping" your situation by continuing to do burn outs and donuts. I'm not the only one who questioned your methods either.

That's like burning your hand on the stove, then immediately putting your hand on the burner again to see what happens.

Do what you do man, good luck with it
