Howdy y'all, I just purchased a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport with
the 5.2L Magnum V8. When I first start the truck and drive it drives
great! But, once it heats up to normal running temperature, the transmission
no longer shifts and sort of just "limps" me back home/work/wherever and
if I don't get somewhere quick, it'll just stop going till it cools down.
The vehicle itself isn't overheating mind you. Any help would be
appreciated.

Here's a pic of the transmission fluid, it's up just above the min lvl line.

the fluid should be red, it looks brown in the pic, 1rst thing I would do is a tranny filter & fluid flush.

It is common for internal seals to leak once they're warm. Do you have a delayed engagement to drive when cold?

You can try fluid and filter as mentioned but usually once you start having weak seals you end up with low pressure and it smokes the frictions. The right fix is a rebuild. I'd also be suspicious of the pump

So dropped the transmission pan and it was full of some thick black liquid that at one time may have been transmission fluid. At the advice from the gear shop, I also changed out the governor pressure thingamajig as well as the doohickey to the side of it. Shifts great, now to fix the low fuel pressure problem i'm having...
