I dont know if this is the right forum i need to ask this i will give it a whirl. I installed a transmission temp gauge today. I cut into the rubber hoses that goes to the cooler and put a sensor in. I hooked the gauge up and the temps runs about 80. I guessed and installed the sensor in the line going out the cooler to the transmission. Should I have put the sensor in the line coming out the transmission running to the cooler?? I know the temps should be higher than that once the transmission getting in operating temps.

Ideally I would want my tranny temp sensor on a pressure port on the tranny, if there is one. Second best would be installed into the pan. Third would be on the cooler line coming from the tranny. Installed in the return line from the cooler would be my last choice. Hope that helps.

I was reading around and read that you shouldnt put a temp sensor in a pressure port on the transmission because you will not get a true reading. Return line from the transmission to the cooler is the hottest oil right?? I think i have read that is the oil coming right out the convertor. What would be the best temps to monitor and what should they be?

That's where I put mine on my GTP.

Yes it wont be as accurate as the pan, but should only be maybe 5* off tops. Still it's going to show a temp and when it gets past the 210-215* mark you know somethings wrong and you need to shut your truck off ASAP
