2015 Quad Cab 4x4 Pentastar Motor 3:21 gears 8 speed transmission
What should the average temperature be ?
Mine seems to stay around 120/130 when it is below 32 and below ( Has not been above 32 yet )
I can drive 20+ minute at 60 mph not much a change !
If I park and idle the temp will go up and stay in the 160+ range ( I believe normal ? )
Coolant will be at the normal 190+ range
Is there a transmission cooler ?
Is the temperature controlled by a thermostat or sensor ?
No codes and runs fine, Shifting seem to take a while going from 7 and 8th
D you think it needs a Transmission reflash ?
would disconnecting the battery do anything ?
AM I missing something ?
Am I over thinking it ?
FYI I am now Gear Head just a Putz that is curious ! lol

Yes there's a transmission cooler in front check to see if the flaps on the grill are closing since it's so cold they shouldn't be opening unless you have an aftermarket grill and that would also be an issue but I've been in freezing conditions before and it never would warm up

Thanks for the fast reply ! Grill is stock. My engine temp is fine but bugging me about the cooler transmission ! Then once I do get temp up it stays there :O And as far as I know my Active Air Shutter is working but I will check.
Again Thanks

I've got the same truck/engine/trans, except it's a 2017. The rate at which the 8hp45 trans will warm up and the max ATF temp it will reach is largely dependent on the ambient temperature and how you are using the cabin heat. All 8spd Rams have a 3-way coolant valve that will send coolant to the ATF heater or to the heater core (cabin heat) or any combination of the two. The higher you have the cabin heat working, the colder the ATF temp will run.

I know on my truck, if it's under 20degF out and I have the heat nearly full blast, I can drive all the way to work, which is a 40 mile trip and my ATF temp may get to 160F at most. If I dial the heat back, It can reach 185F.

On a hot summer day at 90F with the A/C cranked, I've had ATF temps in the 220+ range.

What you are seeing seems perfectly normal to me.

Thanks never thought about the cabin heat causing affect ! I will mess with that later when I head out :) Funny thing is when I first got my RAM I was concerned about the the high to me coolant temps , and high to me Oil pressure , and not worried being too cool lol All a learning curve :) I always thought I stayed in the 160 range but I now keep a closer eye on all my temps just because :)
Again Thanks for the fast reply and FYI when it come to me NOTHING about me is Normal lol

All those temps sound normal to me. Your Oil Temp and Trans Temp should run within 15-20 degree of each other. If that. Oil pressure will run super high till it gets warmed up, then it levels out.

I think you are fine.

Yea took awhile to get used to 90 PSI on warm up lol then it settles to the 40 PSI range all normal w/the 2 stage oil pump ! Engine oil temp and coolant run close to each other like you said about 15* difference ! Thanks for the fast reply , so far from all the answers I was just overthinking lol Thanks

Rich, I hear you! That 99psig cold start oil pressure spooked me for sure, especially given the plastic oil filer housings our Pentastars use. I assume it's even higher than 99psig on cold start, that's just as high as the gauge will indicate.

Yes- Adjust the cabin heat and you will almost instantly see how it effects ATF temp.

***** Holy ****! seriously? ! is not that very high? Honestly IDK... ? asking I guess? not a mechanic here.

I was getting worried @ 160+ * I guess no worries, but my tranny is really ticking hard on the gear down situation. You know the Tick Tick Tick really fast forever?
