Any consensus out there about the average life expectancy of a transmission in a 2012 Ram 1500 5.7 with Shifter on the console? It has just a little over 110, 000 miles. Any thoughts/experiences would be helpful. Thanks so much.

How's it been driven?
Purchased new or used?
Has it been serviced (oil & filter replaced)?
Towed/hauled often?

There's no reason it won't last for many more miles as long as it's serviced (edit) and driven decently ;)

Unless it has been severely abused, it is just getting broken in. I have 140 000 miles on mine with no problems.

If you don't tune the truck to have a bunch of extra power and pull the torque management away, you can easily get 200k at a minimum out of that transmission. The 65RFE is a decent transmission if you keep everything stock and keep up with fluid/filter changes. I have had 0 issues with mine and I have 104k on my 2013, almost 20k of that is towing my camper. The truck pulls the camper like a champ also.

The RFE transmissions get a bad rep from not being able to handle extra power. It comes from the Hemi crowd but it mostly from the Cummins crowd that put a 200hp tune on it and then complain when the transmission goes out. The internet is littered with stories like that.

Bottom line, don't add extra power and keep fresh fluid in it.

^^^ this guy found this too... You can address known weaknesses in rfe next time you change the fluid, BTW you need metal thread upgrade and redline c+.
