Hi,

I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 6 ft long bed (I measured it and it's about 80 inches long by 6 ft wide, end to end but my guess is that it is considered 6 ft long bed ?). I'd like to replace the bed bc mine is very rusted, with holes, etc. How do I know what truck years are compatible with mine? I know parts may be the same for a range of years but I dont know where to go / on what web site to check.

Thanks so much,

2003 through 2009. Replaced mine with one that a local salvage yard had from Texas. They had three to choose from. $900, $1200, and $1500. I went with the most expensive one because it was absolutely immaculate! It was the short box also. They seem to be readily available compared to Fords. Good luck!

Close. 2002 to 2008 1500, 2003 to 2009 2500/3500.

If I find a longer/shorter bed, would it fit as long as it's from a 2002 to 2008 1500 ? Or it has to stay the same size? I wonder if the frame (or whatever the bed fixes to) is different for different beds.

Tks so much,

There is a short box and a long box

You would not want a 8 foot bed on a 6 foot frame, or visa versa

Stick with your stock size bed.

As others said, gotta stick with the same bed size you have and they are becoming more readily available it seems as these trucks get older

This guy spent his money well :)
I would be afraid to drive it, it would be a trailer queen for sure

I have no idea why it reads Security

it is actually a customized

I just found this forum and this thread - (12-26-21). I know this is an old thread but maybe you can answer a few questions. I need a good used 8' bed. Been looking for 3 months and got myself fully confused here. I have a 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 8' long bed. I always thought it was a Gen 2. But here it looks like it is a Gen 3. For 6 ' beds - the original question here- you say a 2002-2008 Ram 1500 bed will fit but the 8' beds are 2003 - 2009 will not fit a 2002???. I saw one place where a guy said beds were beds and all would fit. I also found where all the beds were virtually the same size maybe 1/4" difference on the early beds. Is there any difference in the mounting points on later beds then on the 2002? I'm pretty sure there is some sheet metal differences but I don't care if the 2003- 2009 beds are different. I have seen lots of those and passed them by because I could not verify they would fit. Please can you help square this away. The insurance company has less of an idea then I do and I assured them it was a Gen 2. I also have found lots of 2003-2009 beds in decent shape. Thank you.

There are at least 3 companies that make bed panels for your truck

RAYBUCK
or
LMC
or
Mill

I would think that Beds for your truck would be available in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona & Cali

Yes, you have a 2nd gen. Since 2002 the half tons get introduced a year earlier than the HD's. You need a 2nd gen bed. This is what I found on https://www.car-part.com using Flagstaff's zip code:
