Installed the Dirt King Fabrication tire strap today. I left enough room for a 35" or 37" spare tire. I decided to use only one of the included D-rings and use the bed corner mounts instead. I figured less holes in the bed is better.
First I used a stepped drill bit to create a 7/16" hole. It's approximately 40" on center from the rear of the bed. Before you drill, make sure you're not drilling into anything under the bed.
Next I deburred and painted the edge of the hole with duplicolor paint that I picked up from Advanced Auto. I don't think it's an exact color match, but I wasn't too worried. I applied 3 coats waiting 30 minutes in between coats.
Once that dried I used two 9/16" socket wrenches to install the D-ring that comes with the kit. Needed a helper for this part. The extra plate is something I made. It's made from 6061 .125" aluminum. I also removed the old tire *****.
Lastly cleaned the tire and strapped her in.
