Back in the old days there were basically 2 truck caps one for a short bed and one for a long bed. Didn't matter, Chevy Ford dodge jeep and even IH.
Now a days there seem to be a gazillion different ones depending on what kind of truck.
My Dakota's for instance only a cap from another Dakota will work. Not a ranger, not an S10 or a Colorado, had to be from a Dakota.
Now I have a 12 ram 1500 long bed (8') will a cap from a 90s long bed fit?

It might, but if it's not from a '12 the roofline may not match up to your cab. Aluminum caps are the exception. They're made 1 way, square, so they will usually be slightly higher or lower than your cab, no matter the year.

I bought an Aluminum cap for my '96 ram, brand new, and it was an inch higher than the truck cab. Fiberglass caps are made specifically for a certain model truck, if you have a used one, from another truck, it may or may not fit your bedrails, crapshoot.

My '10 is a Leer cap. Blends right in with my cab. looks sharp.

Good luck!
