Hi ive been struggling to figure out what may have caused my truck shutting off a couple times at random. 1 was evening, started it up drove away and then went to make a turn and then it died. 2nd was 2 days later i floored and it died. I took it to a buddys shop and he tested the voltage on the battery. It read 12v, we charged it for an hour then it read 14v on the meter. Tested fuses those were good. There was an odd button that was already on dash at time of purchase and the light was on with no way to turn off. Turns out it was for a light bar but directly connected to the battery. My question is since i have removed the button will i still experience this problem? I has yet to happen since removing the button.

I'm thinking that unless that button was shorting something out on the other side, it shouldn't make a difference whether it was there or not. Even if it was a direct short, I'm guessing the in line fuse would blow, or if no fuse, the wiring would smoke before it would affect the truck. Your voltage should have read closer to 12.5v. I would check it while the truck is running. Should be around 14v while running. Also, while cranking the engine, it should never go below around 10 volts. If it does, it's bad. You can take it to most auto parts stores and have a load test done.

As for the stalling problem, it could also be as simple as water in the gas tank. A cheap fix is dump a couple bottles of "Heet" in the tank. It won't hurt either way.

Not sure if battery would be the issue. If battery went bad or alternator stopped charging, odds are you wouldn't see 12V on the meter. Load test would be only way to rule out battery for sure. Any other running issues besides cutting out randomly? Low power, running uneven, anything out of the ordinary that you may not have noticed at first?

Thanks for the reply, will try the HEET, and yes while its running, now.reads 14v instead of 12. The guy alao said it is still stock battery so wouldnt hurt to buy a new one since from 2012. But thank you

One thing i am noticing is i will step on the gas and it is a little sluggish before it really kicks into gear. Is that a common thing?

How many miles on your truck? I'm thinking the crank position sensor could be going. I had a 2000 Grand Cherokee. Stalled a couple times, once on highway doing 80 mph, but there were no codes. Finally one time hard failure and thre CPS code. Replaced it & all was good.

Same thing happened to me with a Chevy Suburban. Real fun trying to stop a heavy vehicle and steer it off the road with no power brakes and no power steering. It was very intermittent, and very dangerous when it occurred. Check the CPS. Basically, the truck loses track of the crank position, doesn't know when to inject fuel and doesn't know when to fire. As a result, shuts off fuel so as to not cause catastrophic engine damage. The one problem is it puts you and others on the road in immanent danger[emoji2957].
