My son is on track to buy my 2001 2500. It just crossed 250,000 miles and seems to be in great shape.
A friend of the family has an older F-250 I think around 2010 with a blown engine. He also acquired a 24 valve and is selling it with the Ford. So now he wants to buy that and thinks he can get it for around $5K, I told him be prepared to drop another $5K to get the Cummins dropped in the Ford.

Is this a terrible idea or doable?

if he wants a ford, buy a ford
if he wants a cummins, buy a cummins

but to hotrod a cummins engine into a ford, is just a terrible idea
How U gonna get anything to match up unless You strip all the wiring and replace?

Find an old Cummins with a Bad engine and drop in the replacement engine they talking about, LOL.

Used to swap a lot of GM parts between brands, ie., Chevy-Pontiac etc but a lot of those items crossed over. Putting a Cummins in a Ford, guess can be done but why? LMAO

All above IMHO only.

It has been done. A Youtuber stuffed a Cummins into a late model F350 a while back. As i recall from the video, there were a number of fitment issues to overcome. Not a weekend project. Too much intrigue for the average person, I suspect.

Westin champlin Cummins swapped a lot of fords and a rolls Royce, doesn't mean it was a well done build or low budget!

All it takes is a bucket of money, and a great big hammer. lots of silly stuff done.
I usally get these ideas at 3 am, and forget it when sun comes up.

Saw a Datsun 1/4 t. many yrs ago at the Edmonton AF base, it was a tandem drive with a diesel in it, stake body cw hoist.
asked the fellow how and why, He said it was simple , 2 yr job and every month you just take a pail of money to the bank.
He said he has turned down some vg offers for it.
But A Ford? :insane:
