It’s happened three times now. Come up to a turn, slow down, turn the wheel and it just dies. No CEL, radio and gauge cluster stay lit. Just the engine dies. It starts right back up but I can’t figure out why it only dies while turning.

Might be a bad or dirty idle air control valve. It’s supposed to increase the RPM when you turn on the AC or turn the steering wheel etc.

Had similar problem but on an 05 and an 07 without any codes and it was the egr valve. Check and see if throttle body needs to be clean.

Should I clean or replace? The RPM drops slightly when I turn the wheel.

Try idling your truck, and note what RPM it’s idling at, turn it off, disconnect the electrical connection to the Idle air controller , then turn it on again and see where it idles. Also look around for vacuum leaks on hoses, any cracks etc. But it could be the EGR or things other folks have suggested.

I did get a code for “minor vacuum leak” but it cleared itself. Where do you suggest I start my search?

Just find every vacuum line you can and inspect very very closely. I had lots of vacuum problems with my old Ford F150 and I was replacing lines all the time. If fact there was one elbow that’s notorious under the throttlebody that would develop a huge leak almost every year and I had to replace it. If your engine is quiet, sometimes you can hear a hissing sound as it idles, and if you’re careful you can use a tube like a stethoscope, poking around in areas and listening for a hissing. But be very careful around belts and moving things. But definitely start at any lines around the throttlebody and the idle controller EGR things like that.

Or you could spray ether with care around vacuum areas and if engine speed picks up considerably, you narrowed down where it is leaking from. Check the vacuum line going to brake booster.

I'm here because my 2011 Ram 1500 has 1) take a considerable gas mileage hit (decrease of about 2 MPG), 2) has had idle fluctuations after coming to a stop (typically dips to 350-400 and jumps to 600-700 before resting at 500) for a few months and 3) just died on me after having parking with the steering wheel to turned to the left. This is the first time it has died on me ever. So, what have I done on this truck - well, I've replaced the throttle body, the spark plugs, the coolant, and had all the fluids exchanged. I've checked for hose leaks, haven't found anything. I've got 102K miles on it. I've been reading for possible reasons for my issue and found that it could be the MAP sensor and/or PCV valve - both of which can affect the idle and overall performance - both of which I've been experiencing. Thus I just purchased these two items for a grand total of $51. This truck should be running great and I'm hopeful after replacing these pieces this weekend, I'll have my old truck back! I'll report back about this time next week and let you know the result

I put my PCV in on Friday and the result was immediate, so it was obviously bad. My truck now idles consistently at just under 600 RPMs after coming to a stop or just sitting in park, etc. and my mileage is back to normal although Ive only been driving a few days. But the expectation is to get back to 16.5-16.7 MPG, instead of 14.7. I’m changing the MAP sensor today. I don’t think it’s bad but it will likely need replacing in 20k miles per recommendations anyway so I’m just getting a jump on it and we’ll see if anything significant changes.
