Tuner question

Never had a tuner before. I have a 2014 tradesman 5.7. What would be best tuner? Should I get cold air intake first? Not looking for super fast truck just want better gas mileage and lil more horsepower.

The tuner will never pay for itself in fuel savings. The extra power is nice though.

I'd recommend a Diablo Trinity with a Hemifever custom tune

Consider factors like how you drive, what you want for benefits from the tuner, and even where you live. I live at 3,600ft, where canned tunes often equal or better custom tunes written by guys in the US much closer to sea level. I'm strongly considering a Superchips (a real underdog around here) because it comes loaded with a dedicated tow tune, and is considered strong for it's canned tunes.
A custom tune is often provided for free with purchase through vendors here like Moe's, and would just be a little extra work with data logging and loading/unloading.

I bought a I 1000 DCX real cheap (under $300) because they are discontinued. I have went from 12.4 mpg to 15.6 mpg and gained a noticeable amount of performance. I loaded the 91 octane tune with a little tinkering.

Perhaps, but I want a tuner, not a toy. IMO the trinity is eye candy. I don't plan on keeping any tuner in the truck.
As we use it primarily for towing(about 10mpg), the truck will only ever 89 octane so benefits of a 91/93+ tune aren't important to me.

Don't get a Diablosport anything. They are nothing but problems, extremely cheaply made. My truck is sitting and can't go anywhere right now bc of their products, and their customer service is only open during business hours, so I'm out of a truck until Friday because of their crappy products. I'm familiar to tuning vehicles, and did it just as I have done before. People have all kinds of problems with Diablosport. The Hemifever tune does make a difference though. I am probably going to sell my tuner soon as this gets fixed, and get a better brand that is more reliable.

So what would you recommend? I don't drive crazy fast all the time just wanted that extra HP when needed to pass someone. I also drive 104 miles round trip everyday so any extra fuel mileage would help

I have used Superchips twice. Got one, sold it cause I wanted the newer type. Simple to load and worked fine. I did have an issue at one time but an email or 2 got it fixed quick.

I just installed the Diablo I2 with can 93 tune. Bought the tuner threw Hemifever. Had no problems at all with loading the can tunes then I installed Hemifevers custom tune. My next step is to get three tanks of 93 threw it then send Hemifever a datalog so he can tune it even better for my exact truck. My advise is buy it threw Hemifever(Sean) he will walk you threw step by step on how to use the tuner. You have to do some things an exact way. If you just wing it and think you know what you are doing you can easily screw something up,just like when you see people complaining, makes me wonder what they did wrong?
Hemifevers tunes made a very noticeable change to my truck. Absolutely love the way it drives now!

Jay answers email instantly 7 days a week and knows his stuff. Easy purchase from Jays for the Custom tunes any time. very satisfied with Jay.
