Hello all, I'm evaluating my first tuner purchase and I'm considering the diablo trinity given its recent release for the 2015 but I'd rather keep this thread more general to tuning as opposed to a specific brand, yr etc. This will be my first experience with tunning, so I'm trying to do all my homework on the front end, to hopefully reduce unforseen surprises.

For the purpose of this thread, let's just go ahead and clear the air by assuming I don't have a warranty to take that part out of the discussion.
So my first question is this what are the long term effects.on running these custom tunes? Am I going to be shortening the life of my engine? If I'm wanting to keep the truck for the long haul is the little performance boost worth the trade off, let's assume I want 200k miles before tradein. If I should expect some extra wear and tear which I can only assume that to be the case BT trying to squeeze more performance beyond oem , like most things has a certain count of risk to play factor but to what end with a custom tunning? How serious? Are we talking something as simple as burning thru plugs quicker or redoing valve , rods, ring replacements and by how much sooner than if OEM ? 80%, 50% 30% sooner...

So for my second question, let's assume only the prebuilt custom tune has been used and not gone off the deep end with more aggressive tweaking. How many have had an issue not long after a tune that they feel to be a result of the tune? ie if they hadn't done the tune, they felt like the OEM would not have had the same issue. I know that's a hard question to answer and some may say bag just because of denial etc but I'm trying to get a real sense of the short term possible implications that could come along with custom tunning.

So lastly anything else you feel pertinent to the subject of this thread that you want to through in feeling I should know, I'm all ears!

As always,Thanks in advance for your feedback guys!

I think that if you take the time to have a conversation with Matt from Moe's Performance, he will be able to answer all your questions to your satisfaction. He has more information and experience with these tuners than most anyone on this forum. He will give you honest and accurate first hand information based on his experiences using these tuners.

I know that no 2 trucks are identical, but I have 250k miles on my '04 hemi that I installed a tuner (superchips) on with around 30k miles. No issues.

Longevity is more a matter of proper maintenance and how you treat the truck. If you drive it like a maniac all the time, nothing will help keeping it together.

The tuner can actually optimize engine performance reducing some unburned hydrocarbon deposits on the valves, cylinders and even back to the catalytic converters. An engine with optimized fuel/air ratios and proper spark will burn cleaner and therefore, longer.

Further, tuning can actually improve your mileage.

The canned tunes that come with the tuners do a decent job but full optimization comes (and awesome performance) with a custom tune.

I've run tuners and special tuning on 4 vehicles and they all performed well and lasted a long time with regular maintenance.

Do It!

Long term I can't comment on but I think a good maintenance schedule is key to any vehicles life. I'm really enjoying the custom tune option right now and I think there is a risk but it's minimal in my opinion. I have had zero issues running a tuner and my truck really is the ultimate driving machine. Just beware, moding is addictive :favorites13:
