Royal Purple 20-820 Replacement?

The favorite 20-820 filter is gone for good....what is one to do? Oil filters have changed so much and I'm not sure if I trust Wix or Fram. Let's update this debate to 2026. I wish I had bought a case of 20-820's last year

Fram FE2 may be gone for good, Ed. First Brands bankruptcy liquidation. Some are recommending Purolator Boss, recent info suggests STP, which is made by PGI (Vietnam?) which I use for the Harley. Very well built. With so many filters suddenly gone from the market due to bankrupt Fram, it is an unsettled time, at best.

I don't understand what is going on. First Brands is bankrupt and couldn't get anyone to buy their assets so they're closing plants and cutting loose all employees.
Right now. Maybe some stock still exists, who knows how much? First Brands owned Champion Labs that made Royal Purple filters.

Best going imo is this one puro boss pbl24651 which is the large one like the 20-820. Maybe as good or even better then the 20-820. We have one test where it was middle ground compared to XP bottom and RP/ultra on top, then this test which has it at 1. We know it is 100% synthetic, decent loose thick media with 6 larger holes. I didn't like old puro boss, but this is a redesign and they did a great job on it. The filter is the new 20-820.

Wix XP is no longer synthetic media, so use those at your depression, it does look like a good filter for a blend, better then it was as a syn filter compared to others but wix XP same price less quality.

Yep, Last year, 2025 I had the PBL24651 and RP 20-820 both in my hands at the same time. It is a good looking filter.

FWIW, my oil pressure remained at the same high level I have been seeing
with RP 20-820.

Fleetguard lf16002 is the 20-820 size from fleetguard. Stratapore media very efficient. 100%@24 microns

Carquest EP 85372 made by PGI 99%@25 microns

As burla said purolator boss 24651 but ive no clue on efficiency

Theres also ford racing fl820. 99%@20 microns high bypass setting 22psi. Synthetic blend media

So the early 4 gens have the larger filter and in later generations such as yours they spec the smaller filter eventhough in 99% of the trucks the larger filter will still fit. It is rather important because the smaller filters in other brands have had issues, but never with the larger filter. Have to read oil filter thread for all the info. If you look down there you can judge for yourself, it isn't that much larger. It will fit the base plate and the threads that is not an issue. Or see above for the smaller filters that will fit, but imo the large in a rather beneficial upgrade in comparison.

That clearance is bad and good news, now it makes me worry if somehow puro is on the way out too. Like dam hell. At 4 bucks I'd buy all I could get and store them inside.

This just chaps my aaz, this state is so bad fellas, it is a pure shame what 60% of the people here support. We have a concentrated population who is known for car culture, and they are closing every single store even the hot ones?
