Hello,

I've been thinking about customizing my 2005 Rumble Bee 4x4 since my brother blew my doors off with his 2018 2500 6.4. I want a reliable set up that I can drive long distances. Is it worth building my 5.7 to 500 HP or am I better off swapping a newer drivetrain. I'd love a Hellcat setup. It's been awhile since I spent money irresponsibly, so that's not out of the question. I've watched BoostedMotorSports videos on Youtube, so, I know the Hellcat swap is possible. What year drivetrain should I be looking for? Is there someone that makes a harness for this? Will my axles hold up? Thank you in advance.

Many other build threads as well if you search, these are just the two that came to mind.

Having never added any meaningful HP to anything, this is just speculation, but from what I have seen you may be able to build your motor to 500hp for cheaper, but I wouldn't hold any high hopes on it being super reliable. The further you stray from factory, typically the the more variables are introduced and reliability becomes a question mark.

Doing a 6.4 & trans swap, while expensive, will likely be a fairly reliable set up if done correctly and you don't just beat the h3ll out of it everyday. It is a factory designed, tested and proven set up, it just happens to be way more powerful than your current motor.

Thanks. I did a bunch of searches before asking and to my surprise, there were limited results. I'm leaning towards an engine, transmission (and transfer case if needed) swap.

The reason there are limited results is because you have a 2005 (PCI bus) truck; everything you've mentioned swapping to is all later CAN bus and isn't compatible. Even if you built a non-VVT stroker 5.7 or a 6.1 (which would handily beat your brother's truck and then some), it wouldn't be long term reliable since the trans would be living on borrowed time. Luckily, the trans can be swapped. There is a 2004 QC running around Canadia with a 6.1 based 392 and an 8HP70 trans; while this one is rwd, a 4wd ZF trans can easily be adapted and wired up to your truck.
If you are hell bent on a VVT engine (later 5.7, 6.4 or 6.2) then you will need a standalone controller.

If your serious about 6.2 /hellcat swapping it,there's a couple facebook pages dedicated to swapping the 6.2 into pretty well anything with wheels.
Here's one page to start with, but there's a few more if you go looking
