Tv cable problem

My 01 ram 1500 5.2 has the tv cable disconnected because it wont return to the idle position without going under the truck to move the lever by hand. Has anyone else had this problem before and if so how did you fix it? Its a 46re

There should be a return spring down on the tranny end of things.

I have been thinking about replacing this spring on my truck. Only because it is probably original, and springs get weaker with use.

Is there any reason I couldn't use a carb return spring? I ask because I think the only way to buy a replacement is to get the whole damn cable assembly.

My local dealership has told me they can't order just the spring, it has to be the whole cable assembly. Of course, they have pissed me off on a couple other things, too.

I asked them once about adjusting the bands in my trans, and they said they don't do it because it isn't necessary. I asked them then why does it say to do it in the FSM? They couldn't give me a good answer.

Parts people most likely gave up looking for it as its a ***** to find in the parts book.
