A very abbreviated story- forgive me if this is the wrong place for it,,,
Just last Monday night, 2/8/2021, my 2017 1500 BH was stolen from a dealership where it was being worked on, with other vehicles in a night-time smash and grab.
I was alerted on my phone's UConnect app at around 8:30 pm by a "multifunction alert" went off in my truck, and in turn threw a notification on my phone. I didn't really thik it was being stolen because when I opened the app in my phone, it showed it still at the dealership, and with the same mileage that I left it. Although late, I assumed someone was working on it.
I incidentally looked at the app before going to sleep, and my truck was now 33 miles away, on a dead end road! I called the police, they sent an officer and found it undamaged, and I took an Uber to meet the officer, and drove my truck home. Still with the "multifunction light" lit, I had the dealer tow it back to the dealership the next morning. As of yesterday, one other car was still missing.
Is UConnect worth the price? Unquestionably. There was a car thief somewhere in Tampa Tuesday morning that knew the sinking feeling that his stolen truck was now re-stolen back by the owner.
Could UConnect be better? Unquestionably. If my truck wasn't in the middle of an AC repair, it wouldn't have thrown a "multifunction alert", and I would have never even looked at the app. I was VERY lucky. I would really like to see "geofencing" built into the app so one could set one's own movement alerts, even if very limited to avoid privacy concerns, geofencing would be a very valuable upgrade. This technology has existed for at least a decade.
I used to be on the fence about spending money for the UConnect service- but no more.
Thought I'd share.
