Unknown hose nex to oil filter

I changed this oil this morning. I've just moved this hose out of the way in the past, but today I noticed it looked like it has a plastic elbow not connected to anything. I unclipped it and it looks open. I searched all around and couldn't find a fitting or hose it goes in to.

I started the engine and there's no vacuum on it. Does anyone have any idea what this hose is and if it is supposed to be hooked to something?

If that heads back twords the firewall it is most likely the transmission breather tube. The front differential one doesn't come up that high and the transfer case is just on top(provided the truck is 4X4).

Can you trace it back to the other end? That would give a more definitive clue about its purpose.

Trying not to be that guy, but if I could trace it to where it goes, I would know what it is.

Don't breather hoses normally have some sort of screen or filter at the open end? The open end looks like it should go into something....?

Yeah I noticed that tube on mine when I got the truck. But figured it was a breather hose for transmission. But I'm not sure.

Just found this on another site. So I guess we found the answer! It's the breather hose for transmission.

Yep that's exactly what that is on pentastar powered Ram 1500s. Transmission breather hose.
