i installed some subwoofers under the seat in my 2016 laramie (in a fox box) with the alpine system and the bass sounds great, the thing now is i want to upgrade my door speakers to have more voice since the bass over powers the voice. I wanted to install kicker cs speakers (6.5" and 6"x9")in the front and rear doors with an amp of course, my question is would the kicker cs speakers with an amp make for louder music than the stock alpine system? . Thanks

Front doors are mid/bass only, no highs. Have you upgraded the dash speakers to something like Jbl gx302's? I have a fiberglass box under rear seat with (2) 12s and 1,000 watt rms amp and the gx302 in dash have nice enough highs for me, I also did done jbl 6x9s in rear door running off stock alpine amp. There are no tweeters in the stock alpine speakers, just full range crappy paper cone, so those added tweeters make big improvement.

I dont know if it's over your budget but a nice set of components in the doors with tweeters In the sail panels with a amp would be a better set up.imo

If your going to run an amp dont go with kickers. I have rockford 3 way power 6x9s in my rear doors ($150) and rockford T2652-s 6.5” components in front doors and tweeters in sail panels ($250) and am running them amplified. I have no sub, and everyone that rides in my truck asks what kind of sub I have. For a budget, you can run a zapco 4 channel amp to power fronts and rears.

Did you replace all three speakers in dash? Which jbl 6x9 are you running in rear doors?

Did you have the alpine system as well? Had not thought about running components but i might have to give it a try since i want my music loud to keep up with the bass

The Kicker CS would be a downgrade IMO. Go with at least KS on an amp.

My advice for anyone with the Alpine system that wants to add an aftermarket system (other than just subs) is to start with the PAC Audio AmpPRO. This will give you full range RCA outputs (or optional Toslink if you have a DSP) and then you can go either simple or as crazy as you like. Having the clean basic signal will make your life 10,000 times easier.

Then you can go anywhere from here. Two way or three way components running passively off of a 100-200w two channel amp would be the easiest way to get good, loud sound up front.

At this point it’s more about budget and your music preferences. Also, make sure you budget for sound deadening and treating your doors. That will make a massive difference in the quality of your midbass.

Another huge choice is active or passive crossovers/eq. Active gives you the ultimate control as you can adjust each speaker individually. It’s more costly though, as you’ll need a DSP and then one amp channel per speaker.

wait. I just got a new 2018 Laramie Longhorn with the Alpine system in it. You're saying the doors don't have tweeters at all? Just mids? That's weird. So all of the highs are coming from the dash only?

I have to say, although the Alpine system is ok...the kicker CS 6x9 system I had in my 2010 Sport was much much better. I pulled the Kickers out and kept them. I don't really want to pull my brand new truck apart but maybe I should?
